A family from Connecticut got quite the surprise when their 10-year-old son was called for jury duty.Fifth grade student Nick Dondero received the letter in the mail summoning him to show up.While the family found it a bit comical, they’re wondering how it even happened in the first place.Nick’s mom laughed about it and tucked it away.“Two, three weeks later, I’m going through to pay bills and I’m like ‘oh my gosh, I never sent this back,” she said.Each year, more than 550,000 people in Connecticut are selected for jury duty.The Connecticut Judicial Branch gets a list of names from four places: The Dept. of Motor Vehicles, the Dept. of Labor, Registrar of Voters, and the Dept. of Revenue Services.The list of names the Judicial Branch gets from Revenue Services does not include the date of birth. That is where Nick’s name came from and why he was summoned.“I was wondering what if I don’t go, I wanted to know if that was going to be a problem,” Nick said.It wasn’t a problem.The Judicial Branch said the Dondero family did the right thing. A Los Angeles County resident visited Disneyland last week while infectious with measles, health officials said late Tuesday, potentially exposing hundreds of other people to the highly contagious disease.The individual went to Starbucks at 3006 S. Spulveda Boulevard in West Los Angeles early on the morning on October 16 before going to Disneyland from 9.15 a.m. onwards, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health said in a statement."Anyone who may have been at these locations on these dates during these timeframes may be at risk of developing measles for up to 21 days after being exposed," the statement said.Measles can spread through coughing and sneezing and can live for up to two hours in the air where an infected person coughs or sneezes. As more details become available, the department said it would update information about exposure times and locations."For those who are not protected, measles is a highly contagious and potentially severe disease that initially causes fever, cough, red, watery eyes, and, finally, a rash," said Los Angeles County Health Officer Dr. Muntu Davis."Measles is spread by air and by direct contact even before you know have it. A man fatally stabbed a woman in the neck at a bus stop in downtown Pittsburgh and then stabbed another passerby on Thursday in what police said was a random attack.The incident began when an officer saw a woman sitting at a bus stop in some medical distress, so he got out to check on her. A man then came up and stabbed her, and then stabbed another woman who happened to be walking down the street, said Pittsburgh Police commander of major crimes Victor Joseph.The officer on scene saw a knife in the man's hand and ordered him to the ground at gunpoint, Joseph said.
