Denney is flying out to San Diego, California, to accept her award on Monday, an honor she says she knew nothing about.“There are thousands of applicants, I didn't know I was nominated,” said Denney. “I became the 2019 unsung hero for the country so one person in the whole United States and it still just blows my mind that that's still a thing.”The award is for her lifesaving efforts that have made a difference in Taft.Out of thousands of nominees, Denney made the top 5 in February, and was awarded ,000. Now that she's won first place, she’s getting an extra ,000.It’s money she says will go directly to helping improve the conditions of the Taft animal shelter. “It’s an older shelter and its run down,” said Denney. “We got lights thanks to a donor who put in electricity for us, but I want indoor outdoor kennels with a guillotine in between so when it’s raining we can put them inside.”“We want an area where they can have meet and greet out in the field and somewhere, they can have grass time rather than just cement time.”Denney has big plans for Taft. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Law enforcement officials Thursday were asking for the public's help in locating and identifying the suspect involved in two separate armed robberies this month. San Diego County Crime Stoppers was offering a reward of up to ,000 for information on the man, who's believed to have robbed a Game Stop in Serra Mesa on Dec. 19 and a Subway in Kearny Mesa four days later, according to the organization. The man is also believed to have been spotted at another Game Stop on the same day as the Subway robbery. Around 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 19, the suspect entered the Game Stop store on Murphy Canyon Road south of Aero Drive, where he lifted his shirt to display a silver revolver in his waistband and demanded money from the register, according to the Crime Stoppers news release. The clerk complied, and the man left the store on foot. Around 9:20 a.m. on Dec. 23, a man believed to be the same suspect entered the Game Stop on University Avenue east of 44th Street. An employee recognized the man from the earlier robbery and told another worker to call security. The suspect escaped from the store on foot.The same day, at about 11:20 a.m., it's believed that the same suspect entered a Subway restaurant near the intersection of Clairemont Mesa Boulevard and Mercury Street. He ``simulated'' that he had a gun in his waistband and demanded money from the register. The clerk complied, and the man again escaped on foot. The suspect was described as a Hispanic man in his early 30s, about 5-feet-7-inches to 5-feet-9-inches tall and 180 to 200 pounds. In the first case, he was wearing a white construction hat, construction glasses, a dark-blue or black bandana on his head underneath the hat, black pants and black tennis shoes with white soles, Crime Stoppers said.During the second and third cases, the suspect was wearing an Anaheim Angels baseball cap, sunglasses, a dark-colored shirt, black pants and gray tennis shoes. YORK, S.C. – A South Carolina woman pleaded guilty to fatally poisoning her husband by putting eye drops into his water for days. The woman, Lana Sue Clayton, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison. News outlets report that the 53-year-old pleaded guilty Thursday to voluntary manslaughter and tampering with a food or drug. Clayton admitted to giving her husband drinks laced with Visine. She poisoned him with the eye drops for three days in July 2018 before the poison eventually caused his death. Clayton says her husband was abusive and she didn't mean to kill him, but prosecutors say she killed him for his money. 634

Glendon Oakley was shopping for a jersey Saturday when a child came into the El Paso, Texas, store and said there was a shooter at the nearby Walmart.Oakley told CNN no one in the store, including him, paid attention because they didn't understand what the child was talking about. Oakley said he then walked to another store.That's when things went wrong."I just heard two gunshots and a whole bunch of people started running around and screaming," Oakley said.As mayhem erupted over the next five to seven minutes, the armed Oakley planned to go with others who ran out of the store toward the gunshots."But I see a whole bunch of kids running around without their parents. Only thing I think of is pick up as many kids I can as possible," Oakley said.He and another man began corralling children. There were about 13, Oakley said, but he could only carry three."I was just focused on the kids, I wasn't really worried about myself. So just put my head down and just ran as fast as I could," he said. "They were anxious, when they were in my arms, they were trying to jump out of my arms but trying to keep them as tight as possible. They are kids, so they don't understand what is going on."Once he saw police, he said he let the kids go and pulled out his phone "in case they were going to shoot me and started recording while I was running."Oakley said he wasn't concerned with his safety, rather getting the children out of harm's way."I was just thinking about if I had a child and I wasn't around, how I would want another man to react if they saw my child running around," Oakley said.Oakley told CNN affiliate KFOX that he did what he was supposed to do and he doesn't want the limelight on him."I understand it was heroic, and I'm looked at as a hero for it, but that wasn't the reason for me ...," he said as he broke down in tears Sunday. "I'm just focused on the kids I could not get and the families that were lost. It hurts me, like, they were part of me. I don't even know the people that died or the kids that I took with me ...
