(KGTV) -- Bay Area authorities are investigating the shooting death of one security officer and injuries to another after they were gunned down amid fiery protests in Oakland late Friday night.The shooting happened outside the Ronald V. Dellums Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse, a few blocks from where thousands of demonstrators where gathered.A statement from the FBI sent to Bay Area media said that at about 9:45 p.m., a vehicle approached the federal building and a gunman inside the car fired at the officers. The security officers are contracted by the Federal Protective Service of the Department of Homeland Security.The Mercury News reported that the Oakland Police Department said the shooting “is unrelated to tonight’s demonstration.”It’s unknown if police have any suspects in custody.FBI San Francisco and Oakland Police Department continue to investigate the shooting, KRON news reported.The incident happened as large groups of demonstrators clashed with police in downtown Oakland to protest the death of George Floyd. Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, died after Derek Chauvin, a Minneapolis police officer, knelt on his neck until he passed out.ABC 7 News in San Francisco is reporting that 60 suspected looters were detained for further investigation and 18 people were arrested by Oakland police. Those who suppressed negative emotions (eye roll, anyone) were also more likely to drink heavily after work.While previous research has linked service workers with problematic drinking, Alicia Grandey, professor of psychology at Penn State, said it's not clear why. "Faking and suppressing emotions with customers was related to drinking beyond the stress of the job or feeling negatively," Grandey said. "It wasn't just feeling badly that makes them reach for a drink. (KGTV) — A firefighter battling the CZU Lightning Complex Fire in Northern California had his wallet stolen out of his vehicle and bank account drained, officials say.According to Cal Fire, the firefighter was on the ground directing crews when someone entered his department vehicle and stole his personal belongings, including his wallet. Officials say the firefighter's bank account was later drained."That's the extent that these people have gone, again, this is why we've asked for people to evacuate. It's saddening, it's sickening, and we're doing everything we can to try and help the community and unfortunately, this happened," Cal Fire Chief Mark Brunton said.The fire, which has burned 74,000 acres in San Mateo and Santa Cruz counties, is only 8% contained Sunday night. One person has died in the blaze.Officials on Sunday morning urged residents still in the evacuation zone to leave the area if they hadn't already, in part to keep crews focused on fighting the fire, saving homes, and deterring criminal behavior.About 1,300 personnel have been responding to the devastating fire, as it threatens 24,000 structures. At least 115 structures have been destroyed and 77,000 people have been evacuated from the area.On Friday, Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Department said five people were arrested and charged with looting, grand theft, burglary, and conspiracy to commit a crime in the area.Cal Fire warned Sunday that there was also a fraudulent GoFundMe account circulating that claimed to be raising money for the firefighter whose belongings were stolen.
