Then, the mayor and her police bodyguard head off to the back side of the cemetery alone.And the security video shows the pair left on one occasion after just 12 minutes.In other cases, it's as long as 24 minutes.So what were they doing there?The mayor's spokesperson, Sean Braisted, said Barry "finds it to be a peaceful place to start her day."He added, "Sometimes she would go for a walk, other times she would sit in the car and either reflect, make calls, catch up on emails, or report issues with vandalism in the cemetery."Braisted provided a photo of a tomb that had been partially disturbed that, he said, Barry had provided to city officials.Metro Council member Steve Glover said his only concern for the taxpayers."What is relevant is if the taxpayers are paying for an officer who should not be drawing overtime for frivolous things, and I'm going to call them frivolous," Glover said. In every case documented by WTVF, payroll records show Forrest was on the clock.And in all but one case, he ended up charging taxpayers later that day for overtime -- sometimes late into the night.Glover questioned why Forrest couldn't have split the work with other officers assigned to the mayor's security detail -- so that no one had to work overtime."That makes no sense to me," Glover said. "That says to me the taxpayers are getting cheated if overtime is being accrued here in Nashville when there is more than one officer that's available for that security detail."As for the trips to the cemetery, the mayor's spokesperson says Barry views it as a "sacred place" where Barry intends to be buried.And when it came to the visits there with the officer with whom she was having an affair, the spokesperson insists: "nothing inappropriate ever occurred while there."The mayor's spokesperson also defended the frequent visits to the cemetery with Sergeant Forrest by invoking the memory of Barry's late son, Max -- even offering us a fresh photo of mother and son.He said the mayor plans to bury Max's ashes at her side when the time comes.Still, it's important to note that her son is not currently interred at City Cemetery. 3938

However, McBath said she turned to faith to move beyond her fear.“I believe if I’m in God's will and I’m doing what he's calling me to do, then I have to move beyond the fear.”McBath won the Democratic Primary, then the runoff. Los Angeles-area protests calling for justice for an 18-year-old man shot and killed by police last week ended Sunday when police reportedly fired tear gas and rubber bullets at protesters.Video from Sunday's demonstrations shows police using chemical dispersants and shooting projectiles at protesters in Compton.One protester told CNN that the confrontation escalated into violence when a demonstrator wouldn't "back down" to police.KCBS reports that six people were arrested for unlawful assembly, and one person was charged with resisting arrest.Demonstrators were calling for justice for 18-year-old Andres Guardado, who was shot and killed by Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies in an alley behind a Los Angeles auto shop on Thursday.Police say Guardado flashed a gun and then fled as officers chased him. CNN reports that a deputy fired six rounds at Guardado. Investigators say they recovered an unregister semi-automatic pistol at the scene that included an illegal extended magazine loaded with live rounds.Guardado's family maintains that he was working as a security guard at the body shop at the time of the shooting, and added that they do not believe he owned a gun. But police officers claim that Guardado was not recognizable as a security guard because he did not have a uniform on and was not wearing a gun belt.California law also requires that security guards be at least 21 years old.Capt. Kent Wegener, the head of the department's Homicide Bureau, says investigators have taken six or seven exterior cameras from the scene of Thursday's shooting. MEDINA, Ohio — With every move of a foot or lift of a leg, 13-year-old Isabel Kirby inspires herself and the people around her."More exercise equals more progress," she said. "If you don't have a good attitude about it, you're not gonna feel up to doing things."The teen from Chippewa Lake, Ohio, was suddenly paralyzed from the waist down eight months ago and was diagnosed with a rare, rapid onset disease known at acute flaccid myelitis or AFM.Isabel is making great progress working with therapists twice a week at the main campus at Akron Children's Hospital and their facility in Medina, Ohio.Back in January, Isabel said she was unable to move her legs.During therapy this week, she lifted her legs from a table and a wheelchair and walked with braces called reciprocating gait orthosis (RGO). Physical therapist Renee Parsons provided assistance and encouragement.Isabel is also able to move the pedals on a stationary bike with electrical stimulation and swim in a pool on her own. She can almost stand upright holding the sides of the pool."She just blows me away, honestly. Amazing. She is focused and motivated and strong and brave," said her mom, Noel Kirby.In a few weeks, the family will head to New Jersey to allow Isabel to participate in Project Walk, which helps people recover from life-changing paralysis. Donations through a GoFuneMe account are helping to pay the out-of-pocket costs for the five-day visit.Isabel, who plays softball and is heading into eighth grade at Cloverleaf Middle School, remains hopeful that one day she will be able to walk again on her own."I think I could get to that point," she said."She's gonna do it. She's gonna make it happen," her mom said. "She's trying everything she can to get to where she wants to walk again."Hours after the Kirby family opened presents on Christmas morning, Isabel complained of weakness in her legs.Her parents thought it was growing pains or possibly dehydration, but the next day, Isabel was unable to walk. The eventual AFM diagnosis stunned the family."I just think that people need to know that this is out there, that this exists because we didn't," Noel said.The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently warned of a potential AFM outbreak by the end of the year.There have been more than 600 confirmed cases nationwide since the CDC began tracking the illness in 2014. The numbers have spiked higher in even years, which is part of the reason for the concern over 2020.However, Dr. Matthew Ginsberg from Akron Children's Hospital, stressed AFM is still very rare with about 200 to 250 U.S. cases in peak years."Any child who has an onset of weakness in the arms and legs should seek emergency medical attention," Ginsberg said.Medical experts say many children with AFM will have a fever or respiratory illness days before the weakness occurs. AFM has been associated with Enterovirus D68."It's thought to be caused either by a viral infection that affects some of the nerve cells in the spinal cord or inflammation reaction to that viral infection," Ginsburg said.Isabel is thrilled that she's doing better as she works towards her goal to walk again while stressing that keeping a positive attitude is important to her recovery."Life happens, honestly.
