During an interview with British think tank Chatham House on Wednesday, National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Disease Director Dr. Anthony Fauci said that while the end of the pandemic is in sight, the worst may still be yet to come.In an interview with the British policy institute Chatham House on Wednesday, Fauci said Americans should have reserved excitement regarding an impending vaccine. His comments came just days after Pfizer announced that it's vaccine candidate was 90% effective in Phase 3 trials and is on track for an Emergency Use Authorization application. But the comments also came as the U.S. in the midst of the largest spike in new cases since the pandemic began as well as an uptick in deaths and hospitalizations."I look at the vaccine is that help is coming and it's coming soon," Fauci said. "...for the time being, we have to adhere to the public health measures, and I hope that the fact that people realize that help is on the way in the form of a vaccine and soon, that that would get them to be even more motivated to do the public health measures."Despite the spike in cases, Fauci stressed that he does not believe the U.S. would require another shutdown in order to get things under control. Instead, he pointed to five public health measures everyone should take to avoid spreading the virus.Wear a maskKeep social distanceAvoid large gatheringsConsistent handwashingAvoiding indoor bars, restaurants and similar businesses — while allowing outdoor seatingPublic health experts believe that a COVID-19 vaccine could be available to some in high-risk populations before the new year, but won't be widely available until spring or summer 2021. In an interview with CNN on Tuesday, Fauci said he expects a vaccine to be widely available in April. But despite the likelihood of a vaccine in the near future, Fauci believes COVID-19 is something the world will likely be living with for years to come. He told Chatham House officials that while he believes the world will be able to control the virus with vaccines, he's not sure if it will ever be completely eradicated."I doubt we are going to eradicate this. I think we need to plan that this is something we may need to maintain control over chronically. It may be something that becomes endemic, that we have to just be careful about," he said. "Certainly, it is not going to be a pandemic for a lot longer because I believe the vaccines are going to turn that around."Fauci added that while his administration has faced other infectious diseases that have yet to be eradicated like HIV, anthrax, Ebola and Zika, those diseases have been essentially "put to rest" — still spreading, but at a manageable rate. 2709
Donald Trump Jr. is seeking to scale back his Secret Service protection, four sources familiar with Trump Jr.'s Secret Service protection confirmed Monday. The President's eldest son previously requested to travel without protection during a family trip to Nassau, Bahamas, in late June, a move reluctantly accepted by the Secret Service. Trump Jr. and his family traveled aboard a yacht for several days without his full detail, CNN has learned. A law enforcement source stressed the request to pull back on protection did not come from the agency. The Secret Service strongly pushed back on Trump Jr.'s request to waive protection for the Bahamas trip, according to two sources who spoke on condition of anonymity, but it was "demanded" by Trump Jr. himself. Now, the President's eldest son has asked that his full-time protection end, as well. The Secret Service would not confirm the request."To ensure the safety and security of our protectees and their families we will not confirm who is currently receiving Secret Service protection," a Secret Service spokesperson told CNN.A spokesperson for both Trump Jr. and the White House did not immediately respond to CNN's requests for comment on Trump Jr.'s request.A decision to waive full-time protection is not unprecedented; Ron Reagan ultimately declined Secret Service protection during his father's second term as president. It's unclear whether full-time protection for Trump Jr. has ended.Trump Jr. is authorized, but not required by law, to have Secret Service protection as an immediate family member of the President. The decision comes as the Secret Service is already stretched thin, due in part to the large size of the Trump family. The source added that leaving Trump Jr. unprotected would be a "huge risk," saying: "It's just a stupid decision."The family has expressed a desire for more privacy and personal space, one of the sources said.Earlier this year, two Secret Service agents faced an internal investigation over alleged conduct while they protected one of Donald Trump Jr.'s children. The agents allegedly took a picture of a child sleeping in the Secret Service vehicle, according to people familiar with the matter.Donald Trump Jr. and his brother Eric are longtime supporters of the Secret Service, with a deep history and many friendships dating back years before their father's presidency. Both of Trump's adult sons have also quietly financially supported training initiatives and counterterrorism training through different organizations. 2538

Do you ever wonder what impact putting your recyclables in the right bin can actually have? For one Colorado city, it’s been huge.At prAna, an activewear business located in Boulder, Colorado, Drew Romano’s biggest concerns are his customers and Mother Nature. Recycling is front and center.“Hey, we're not just throwing your stuff in the landfill; it's actually being recycled,” says Romano about the company. Most of prAna‘s shipping supplies are recyclable. As for the plastics bags that hard to recycle, prAna partnered with a company to make sure they don't end up in the landfill.“We wanted to make sure that we can strive to be as zero waste as possible,” says Ramano. It's part of the city’s Universal Zero Waste Ordinance, which requires businesses to recycle and compost. Environmental manager Kara Mertz, who works for the City of Boulder, says in just one year, the effort is paying off. The city is now saving more than half of its trash from going to the landfill.Mertz says they used this video to show residents how to recycle. Then, they made it easy for residents to do it, by placing bins with clear and identical signage across the city.“I think making it easy and accessible to everyone is really the key,” says Mertz.Mertz says it's something we can all do, no matter where we live.“We do believe that over time people will get more and more used to it,” Mertz says. “It'll become second nature, and then all of that material, once it's sorted properly, can be put in the correct bins.” 1520
Dr. Biden earned her degrees through hard work and pure grit. She is an inspiration to me, to her students, and to Americans across this country. This story would never have been written about a man. pic.twitter.com/mverJiOsxC— Doug Emhoff (@DouglasEmhoff) December 12, 2020 289
