KAMPALA, Uganda (AP) — Ugandan security forces are searching for a U.S. citizen and a local driver who were abducted in a wildlife park and their kidnappers demanded a ransom, authorities said Wednesday.The missing people were taken in an ambush by four gunmen on Tuesday in Queen Elizabeth National Park, a protected area near the porous border with Congo, according to Ugandan police and a government spokesman.The kidnappers held up a group of foreign tourists at gunpoint, grabbed two of them and disappeared into the bush. Later the kidnappers, using the phone of one of their victims, demanded a ransom of 0,000, said a statement issued by police."We strongly believe this ransom is the reason behind the kidnap," the statement said. "Their vehicle was left parked and the kidnappers went away with the key."Police have identified the woman as 35-year-old Kimberly Sue Endecott of Costa Mesa. The driver was identified as Jean Paul. The four other tourists were "left abandoned and unharmed" and later were taken to safety after reporting the incident to authorities, according to a separate statement from the Uganda Media Centre.A rescue party of police, military and game rangers has been sent to find the abducted people, that statement said.Kidnappings in Uganda's protected areas are rare. LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) - A construction worker killed on the UC San Diego campus in La Jolla was remembered Friday by his colleagues. Sergio Cruz, 32, was among five workers injured Thursday morning near Mandler Hall at Muir Lane and Scholars Drive. A 35-foot wall of rebar fell on Cruz, Cal/OSHA said. He later died at the hospital. Cruz and the other injured workers are employees of Clark Construction. The company said Thursday it was conducting an investigation. The San Diego County Building & Construction Trades Council said Cruz had worked in construction for eight years. “He was a skilled tradesman who was well-respected by those working alongside him,” said council spokesperson Carol Kim.The crew was building a mixed-use dorm and classroom building at the time of the accident. 805

JAMUL, Calif. (KGTV) -- A man was arrested Tuesday morning after reportedly stabbing a San Diego County Sheriff’s Department K-9 and spraying deputies with bear spray. Deputies were called to the 15000 block of Skyline Truck Trail in Jamul around 10 a.m. Tuesday after receiving reports of a man walking around a vehicle talking to himself. When deputies arrived, they made contact with the man, identified as Richard Lechuga, 29, of San Diego, sitting in a vehicle. When deputies approached Lechuga, he reportedly sprayed three of them with bear spray through an open window. Deputies say Lechuga then brandished what appeared to be a knife and a handgun and stabbed a K-9 in the head and face. Deputies were able to take Lechuga into custody after using less-lethal shotgun rounds, pepper balls and a Taser. The K-9 was taken to a local veterinarian for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The deputies were also treated on scene and Lechuga was taken to the hospital for treatment. Lechuga was arrested for felony assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, assaulting a police animal and resisting arrest. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A boater who had been missing since Friday was rescued about 86 miles off the coast of Florida on Sunday.The U.S. Coast Guard says 62-year-old Stuart Bee was found alive on the bow of his 32-foot Sea Ray, which had capsized.Bee departed Cape Marina in Port Canaveral on Friday and didn’t return, according to the Coast Guard.Watchstanders in Jacksonville learned of the disappearance Saturday morning and were told Bee wouldn’t typically stay out on his boat overnight.An aircrew was dispatched the area and other boaters were advised to be on the lookout for Bee’s vessel.Luckily, the Coast Guard says Bee was spotted clinging to his boat at about 11 a.m. Sunday and was then transported to shore."Saving lives at sea is our highest calling.
