in Colorado on Sunday afternoon. The Larkspur Fire Department said the group of eight people were hiking near the Devils Head Lookout at the summit around 3 p.m. when the lightning strike in Pike National Forest occurred. Ryan Smedra, the incident commander for Jackson 105 Fire Protection District, said the strike hit a rock wall near the hikers and the blast knocked many of them violently to the ground.Five of the hikers affected were able to walk out of the area on their own, the fire department said. They were treated for minor injuries. But a couple of them had burns from the strike, Smedra said. Some of the patients also complained of having tingling sensations. Two other adults required assistance. One of them was transported to the hospital for observation. The eighth victim, an adult woman, suffered critical injuries. She had to be carried down from the trail in a stretcher and was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Officials could not say what type of injuries she sustained. However, Smedra said she did not appear to have burns.Douglas County Search and Rescue said the operation was challenging due to the area's terrain. More than 30 people from multiple agencies were involved in rescue efforts. The lookout tower, established in 1912, is used by the U.S. Forest Service to spot fires. It's accessed by the Devils Head National Recreation Trail. 1394
on Friday. Members of Congress and President Donald Trump have also been briefed by U.S. officials, the Washington Post added. Sanders addressed the Washington Post's report while campaigning in California on Friday. Sanders warned Putin to "stay out of American elections."“Unlike Donald Trump, I do not consider Vladimir Putin a good friend," Sanders said. "He is an autocratic thug who is attempting to destroy democracy and crush dissent in Russia. Let’s be clear, the Russians want to undermine American democracy by dividing us up and, unlike the current president, I stand firmly against their efforts, and any other foreign power that wants to interfere in our election."It is unclear to how exactly the Kremlin is trying to boost Sanders' campaign. US officials have been investigating Russian involvement in domestic presidential elections since the 2016 election. Special Counsel Robert Mueller brought charges against 13 Russian officials for conspiring to defraud the United States. Mueller alleged that Russian oligarchs conspired to help Trump get elected. 1074

from a venomous snake.Jimmie Nelson, an 81-year-old stroke victim who lives alone, wanted a cat as a companion. His daughter, Teresa Seals, helped him pick out Shelly. She was adopted from the Claiborne County Animal Shelter. It was Shelly who also came to the rescue two weeks ago, protecting her owner. Seals says her dad heard a noise in the middle of the night and thought it was just the cat playing or maybe a mouse. A couple days later, Seals got a call from her dad’s sitter who said she saw a dead copperhead a couple feet long on the kitchen floor. On the side of the snake's neck and head were claw marks and one big slash. Seals says Shelly killed the snake and made it out unscathed. If it weren't for her, Seals says it could’ve been much worse for her dad."It was predestined for him to have this cat just to save his life," Seals said. The copperhead is one of four venomous snakes in the State of Tennessee. This story was originally published by Seena Sleem at WTVF. 983
early Sunday morning.Police say Harold Treadwell III was on duty when a gunman shot a bullet into his car. It's unclear how far he drove before he swerved across the median and crashed his car."We don't know much more than he suffered a gunshot wound and died," Sgt. Maggie Cox said. "We are really depending on anybody that we have not already talked to call us."Investigators did not say the shooting was random, but they also said there is no indication that Treadwell was targeted or that anything led up to the gunfire.Treadwell was originally from Indiana and moved to Arizona in 2003. According to a Facebook post by his wife, Frances, the couple was celebrating their 52nd wedding anniversary Sunday."Today is our 52nd wedding anniversary and we spoke right before he was killed and wished each other a HAPPY ANNIVERSARY (thank you God for allowing me to have that last conversation with him so I could tell him that I loved him!)" Frances Treadwell wrote, according to a 982
