SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Navy wife battling cancer is looking forward to a good night's sleep, thanks to the help of United Service Organizations (USO) and Jerome's Furniture.Julie Chadek was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer last year and it has since spread to her spine.“I’ve been home from the hospital for a couple of nights now and have been sleeping on the couch because I was so uncomfortable in our old bed," said Chadek.USO teamed up with Jerome's to get the Chadek's their dream bed."I cried for a while, because you just, you don't see that very often," said Julie. "Knowing that there is still some good is quite amazing."The nearly ,000 bed features an adjustable mattress and therapeutic massage.Julie's doctors have created a new plan of action to target the cancer now in her spine.“There’s still a few more options, we’re not giving up, we’re fighting until there’s no more fight left," said Julie. 930

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A medical helicopter transporting a heart from Grossmont Hospital for transplant crashed on the helipad of a Los Angeles-area hospital on Friday.The AgustaWestland A109 medical helicopter flipped onto its side after experiencing a hard landing on the roof of Keck Hospital of USC at about 3:15 p.m., according to a statement from the hospital. Three people on board, the pilot and two medical personnel, escaped without major injuries. Nobody on the ground or in the hospital was injured, the hospital and FAA said. Patient care at the hospital was not interrupted.The helicopter was carrying a heart from Sharp Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa, according to helicopter service provider Helinet. The hospital said in a statement that the organ was safely delivered to the intended patient in time for surgery.“We are fully cooperating with the NTSB and FAA on their investigations,” said Helinet COO and President Sean M. Cross. “Our company prides itself on professional operation and maintenance of aircraft as core values - the safety of our customers and pilots is always our top priority. We are happy that at this time there appear to have been no serious injuries.”The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.Helinet says it completed more than 1,300 helicopter air ambulance missions in 2019. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A record number of voters have already cast their ballots in San Diego County. Registrar Michael Vu said of the 1.92 million voters in the county, 1,081,727 already voted as of Sunday. The Registrar of Voters pushed for early voting in 2020 to avoid crowds on election days and Vu said that hope has been met.“I’ve never seen numbers like this in advance of Election Day before,” said Vu.He said that they’re expecting between 80% and 85% turnout this year. With two more days to cast ballots, they’re not sure what method the remaining voters will use to vote. He added that in the 2016 presidential election, close to 500,000 people voted in person on Election Day, and it’s possible that many could still vote in person Tuesday, meaning the traditional Election Day lines could still be seen.“Hundreds of thousands of individuals we’re still expecting to vote and the question is will they vote with their mail ballot or will they vote in person,” said Vu.He said the fate of the next couple of days are in the hands of the voters and how they decide to vote.Vu added that if and when people vote, they’re encouraged to go to their designated super poll location. There are 235 super polls across the county. Residents can locate their polling place online here. Voters can also check the back of their sample ballots and voter information pamphlets for assigned polling places.Monday, super poll locations are open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Then Tuesday, polls are open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. for Election Day. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A massive water main break in North Park Tuesday morning flooded streets as the neighborhood continues to cope with issues related to the breaks. According to the city, a 30-inch cast iron water main transmission line broke around 6 a.m. on Ray Street at Capps Street. Currently, the City of San Diego is in the process of replacing all cast iron pipes. After that process is complete, the city says it will assess concrete mains. Crews hope to have all cast iron pipes removed by 2023. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A homeless man was attacked with a skateboard while sleeping in North Park Saturday, San Diego Police said.The man was asleep in the south alley of El Cajon Blvd. at 28th St. when a man hit him repeatedly with a skateboard, said officers.The victim suffered serious head trauma and was taken to the hospital.Police said the attacker is white, about six feet tall, and between 19 and 26 years old.
