POWAY, Calif., (KGTV) — Six days after the City of Poway issued a Boil Water Order, some restaurants are reopening, after getting special permits from the Health Department. On her first day back to work, a server at Mainstream Bar & Grill got the surprise of a lifetime when she received a ,000 tip from a regular customer. It's been a while since hungry customers walked into the Mainstream Bar & Grill. Six days after receiving Poway's food facility closure notice, Mainstream is one of a few restaurants that are reopened. Mandated by the Health Department, they now have a modified eight-item menu with ingredients not prepared on-site, a boiled water hand-washing station, and disposable cups and utensils. "You really want to figure out what you want to do for the holiday or how you are going to spend your money, so that was scary."Klein, a six-year veteran server, was out of a job for five days. But Thursday morning, she was back on her feet. She greeted and served her regulars without a hitch. She even chatted with one of them about how the water outage was affecting her family. LUCIE, Fla. - The tourism industry is looking to bounce back after a tough spring and summer.One resort on the Treasure Coast is trying to appeal to people who want to mix business and pleasure with school.Club Med Sandpiper Bay in Port St. Lucie, located along the St. Lucie River, is one of the few resorts in the country that offers all-inclusive packages.Now, they are starting new programs that have places for parents and children to get their work and school assignments completed.With many families now working and learning from home, Club Med wants area residents to consider a getaway without abandoning your responsibilities. WPTV Sophia Lykke, the general manager at ClubMed Sandpiper Bay in Port St. Lucie, says the resort is working to attract families who can continue to work and attend online school. "We're open to anyone in the United States who want to make their way down to Florida," said general manager Sophia Lykke.She said they have set up two conference rooms that include one for kids to do their schoolwork.“We would have one of our mini club staff dedicated to chaperoning them. [They do ] not act as teachers but make sure they’re logged on [their computer] on time and doing their work," Lykke said. "We have a separate room for adults, which is basically like a working lounge where you can have coffee, snacks. If you need IT support, we have someone who can do it. PORTLAND, Ore. — The mayors of six U.S. cities are appealing to Congress to make it illegal for the U.S. government to deploy militarized agents to cities that don’t want them. The mayors of Portland, Oregon; Seattle; Chicago; Kansas City; Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Washington wrote to leaders of the U.S. House and Senate pushing for limits on agent deployments. The move came Monday as a top official said federal militarized officers would remain in Portland until attacks on the U.S. courthouse cease. Early Monday, U.S. agents repeatedly fired what appeared to be tear gas, flash bangs and pepper balls at protesters.Federal agents have been patrolling Portland over a little over a week. They were sent to the city by the Department of Homeland Security as part of President Donald Trump's crackdown on the defacement of federal property, statues and monuments.Protests have taken place nightly in Portland for 60 straight days, since the death of George Floyd at the hands of police in Minneapolis. While the vast majority of those demonstrating have been peaceful, a federal courthouse has been defaced with graffiti, some protesters have thrown fireworks and other projectiles toward officers and others have attempted to breach fencing surrounding the courthouse.Federal agents have responded by using tear gas, pepper balls and the use of batons to disperse protesters on several occasions.
