SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Jonathan Goldwasser was one of the first business owners to set up shop inside One Paseo in Del Mar Heights.He opened the Parakeet Cafe when One Paseo’s retail area launched in March 2019 - and followed that up a few months later with Juice Crafters.He says business is of course best when the plaza is full.However, One Paseo has been anything but full since March, when coronavirus restrictions went into effect.“This has been hard,” Goldwasser said. “We went from maybe 20 employees to four.”Things, however, changed this week, when One Paseo fully reopened its retail center. On Thursday, there were people sitting at its socially distant tables and chairs, while shoppers in masks walked down its courtyard.“Little by little we are hoping that we will get back to where we were before COVID,” Goldwasser said, noting he’s back up to about 20 workers.About 25% of the center’s 40-plus businesses are mom-and-pops that rely on foot traffic.Juice Crafters closed entirely and Parakeet Cafe was reduced to takeout and delivery, sales going down 80%. They’ve since recovered and are now off 40% from pre-coronavirus levels.“Little by little we are hoping that we will get back to where we were before COVID,” Goldwasser said.The City Council approved One Paseo, a residential, retail and office complex in 2015. However, a referendum from nearby residents and the mall across the street ensued. Developer Kilroy scaled back the center to its current 0 million version, which opened last year just south of Del Mar Heights Road.Now that it’s open, there are social distancing rules in place. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - It’s not the new uniform that sells to thousands of adoring fans.  However, San Diego Gas & Electric’s new employee uniforms could save customers hundreds, if not thousands of dollars.All of SDG&E’s 1,800 employees that work in the field will have new uniforms by the end of the year.“The new uniforms have an embroidered logo on them. The other ones had a patch, which potentially could be removed,” said SDG&E Gas Training Supervisor Scott Hazlett.Hazlett said that embroidered logo replaces a patch worn on uniforms.  He said scammers could take the patch and put it onto any clothing. Hazlett said the embroidered logo is harder for scammers to duplicate.An SDG&E spokeswoman said someone tries to scam a customer almost every day.  The new uniforms give customers another layer of proof that they’re dealing with a legitimate SDG&E employee.Hazlett added any customer with doubts should always ask for identification and they should call SDG&E directly at 1-800-411-7343 to confirm they are dealing with an employee.The new uniforms are also lighter weight and can protect employees better from sparks and fire.“It feels great to know that the company really values its safety,” said Hazlett. 1263

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — In 2004, San Diego taxpayers approved a transportation tax increase that earmarked 0 million for bike projects for more bike lanes, safety features on the roads for cyclists and foot traffic, and new walking trails.Friday, SANDAG said it's going to need more. They add that an expanded bike network will help the county move closer toward greenhouse emissions goals.SANDAG has been working toward the biking goals since 2013, when the agency approved a 0 million Bike Early Action Plan. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — It's been a tumultuous year for East Village's Monkey Paw Brewery.The local brewing company was purchased by Coronado Brewing Company in July 2017, put up for sale in May of this year, and closed its downtown San Diego brewpub Monday.Coronado Brewing Company (CBC) CEO Brandon Richards said in May, months after finalizing the purchase, the sale was part of a refocusing for CBC.RELATED: Miramar's Intergalactic Brewery is closing its doors"While we were excited about the potential of Monkey Paw, the decision to sell came from the need to refocus our energy toward Coronado Brewing," Richards said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Hundreds welcomed veterans home Sunday from their honor flight to the nation's capital where they visited war memorials, Arlington National Cemetery and other landmarks.Sixty-four veterans from WWII and the Korean War flew out Friday. The Honor Flights are free for veterans.
