KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The old saying that 'cash is king' isn't always true in the time of COVID. Many businesses have gone cash-free, asking customers to pay with cards instead.It's one of the changes Crow's Coffee implemented as a result of the pandemic."Even pre-COVID, cash was already a dirty thing," Zach Moore, the owner, said.By accepting online orders and cards only, Moore hoped to limit contact between customers and staff.Most, but not all, customers had no problem with the decision."There have been a few people that want to use cash and can't, and they tell us it's illegal for us to not take cash," Moore said.However, according to the Federal Reserve, it is in fact legal."Private businesses are free to develop their own policies on whether to accept cash unless there is a state law that says otherwise," says the agency's website.Some states and cities, including New Jersey, Philadelphia, and San Francisco, have instituted bans on cashless businesses. Proponents for the bans argue not everyone has access to a debit or credit card.However, no such legislation has passed in the metro area.Screenland Armour in North Kansas City is another local business encouraging online orders and avoiding cash right now.The changes are speeding up the ticket line."As fast as you can come inside and get to your seat, that's better for all of us because we have fewer people in common areas," Adam Roberts, Screenland Armour Co-Owner and Operator said.Crow's Coffee will soon reopen the common area at its South Plaza location, and the business will also begin accepting cash.Finances played into the decision since there's a fee for every swipe."We do want to start taking cash again a little bit just because it does save us a lot of money," Moore said, "That being said, we are definitely encouraging people to continue to use a card just to keep our staff and the customers safe."This story was first reported by Cat Reid at KSHB in Kansas City, Missouri. 1974

Journalists are boycotting coverage of films from Walt Disney Studios in order to show solidarity with the L.A. Times, which is being blocked by the company.Entertainment sites like The A.V. Club and Flavorwire, as well as a pop culture writer for the Washington Post, said they would curb their Disney coverage until the ban of the Times was lifted."It's a dangerous precedent that Disney is setting: Write an unfavorable story—one that Disney hasn't disputed factually, even—and it will blacklist your publication, punishing independent journalism by using its massive corporate influence," wrote A.A. Dowd, the A.V. Club's film editor.Last week, the Times explained in an editor's note that Disney's films were not included in its annual Holiday movie preview because of a story the Times published in September that examined the business relationship between the company's Californian theme park -- Disneyland -- and the city of Anaheim.Disney put out a statement Friday saying that while they work with news organizations they "don't always agree with," the Times "showed a complete disregard for basic journalistic standards" in relation to the Disneyland story and that's what led to the ban.The A.V. KANSAS CITY, Mo. –- For two parents, welcoming three bundles of joy into the world last week was a one-in-a-million feeling. Statistically speaking, that’s not too far off. Identical triplets were born at Truman Medical Center Thursday to Nicole and Caleb Choge. Baby boys Ron, Elkanah, and Abishai were born just minutes apart and six weeks premature. By Sunday, the brothers were doing well under observation in the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit. According to doctors, it’s not uncommon for multiple births to come prematurely. What is uncommon is identical triplets. According to a study in the Journal of Biosocial Science, identical triplets occur only about 20 to 30 times per 1 million births. While the boys’ mother rested, new father Caleb Choge spoke with reporters Sunday. The couple, who have a 2-year-old son, was expecting another baby but were surprised when they saw the sonogram. “My wife and I and our son prayed for another child,” he said. “And then, I like to say, God answered everybody’s prayer: one, two and three.”Until recently, the couple lived in Kenya, Caleb Choge’s home country. They moved back to the Kansas City area to be closer to Nicole Choge’s family. 1253
