Kyle Brown is crediting his pitbull Petey with saving his and his family’s lives after a gunman barricaded himself inside him Romulus home on Friday.Michigan State Police said that the incident began as a botched carjacking a couple of blocks from Brown’s home.The suspect took off through the neighborhood, jumping Brown’s fence. “As soon as I made eye to eye contact with him, I could tell by the look in his eyes and by his intent, he knew what he was doing, and it was an opportunity,” Brown said.Petey charged after the suspect. “When the pit bull came out and encountered him he immediately pulled his gun out and shot him,” Brown said. Even with a bullet wound, Petey was still able to chase the suspect out of the yard.Police say they exchanged gunfire with the suspect as he jumped the fence, hitting the suspect twice. The suspect then jumped back into Brown’s yard and went inside his home.Brown’s son and his friend were inside, and Brown tried to get them all out safely. “When he got to the door he pulled for his gun, and I’m communicating with Tommy, ‘Cmon Cmon Tommy. Hurry up.’ Unfortunately, Tommy just froze up,”  Brown said.The suspect barricaded himself inside the home with Brown’s son’s 7-year-old friend, Tommy.Tommy was released unharmed hours later.The suspect gave himself up to MSP. Tommy, Brown and his son are physically OK.Petey had to be put down because his injuries were so severe. “Petey didn’t make it, but you can’t be upset with him. He not only saved my life but he saved our lives,” Brown said. MSP has not released the suspect's name or the charges he is facing. 1657

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Plaza Academy teacher Justin Gillespie is bringing hip hop production to his classroom.The class is called ‘The Beat Academy of KC’ and is the 5th and 6th hour at school for students.“It's the only program in Kansas City that teaches kids how to make hip hop production,” Gillespie said.Gillespie launched the program back in August.“It's been something I've done in my personal life,” Gillespie said. “I've been a professional musician for 15 years and it's been super rewarding.”From beats to rhythms, students take their creativity to a whole new level.“I'm excited to go here everyday,” freshman Thom Van Til said. “I get joyful when I come here, like it helps me calm down,” 8th grader K’ron Lyons said.The class is producing more than just quality hip hop, it’s also producing higher grades and more engagement from students.“Justin would probably say you cannot perform because your grades is bad, so he encourages me to like make sure I do my work,” Lyons said.Students plan to perform what they’ve been working on at the Beat Academy Block Party alongside Kansas City hip hop artists like Ces Cru, JL & Info Gates, Adrian Truth and Suli4Q. The school is raising funds to build a recording studio this summer, to make more courses available to students next year.  1328

Joe Biden told supporters on Thursday at a virtual fundraiser that he plans to resume holding in-person campaign events following Labor Day, depending on state regulations.Biden has largely not been seen on the campaign trail since the pandemic took hold of America in March.Biden told supporters he plans to target Wisconsin, Minnesota, Pennsylvania and Arizona; three states that were lost by Democrats in 2016, and Minnesota, which has been a target of the Trump campaign.“Here’s the deal. We plan on, without jeopardizing or violating state rules about how many people can in fact assemble,” Biden said. “But we’re going to do it in a way that is totally consistent with being responsible, unlike what this guy’s doing. He’s on the White House lawn tonight first of all violating the Hatch Act.”Biden told supporters that he would not hold “irresponsible rallies,” and would follow public health guidelines.“I’m a tactile politician,” Biden said. “I really miss being able to, you know, grab hands, shake hands, you can’t do that now. KENOSHA, Wisc. — Lucas Jundt is a junior quarterback at Kenosha Indian Trail High School, in Wisconsin who just happens to have prosthetic legs."Since my Dad showed me football, I'm like, I'm going to play that sport!" Jundt said."Yeah, everybody on the team is like 'why is he getting all the fame.' And I'm like, 'sorry for having no feet. I guess they just like that type of stuff!' And it inspires kids to, you know what? Hey, I can get off of my lazy butt and go out there and do something that I love," Jundt said.To his teammates, Jundt is just one of the guys. "They're like 'no mercy for you. We're just gonna go at you.' And I'm like, 'that's fine. I love it,'" Jundt said.Jundt's story of how he got to Kenosha Indian Trail's football field is the stuff of movies. "My parents abandoned me at five days old. I was born with a condition called fibula hemimelia. I don't know if I'm pronouncing that right, sorry doctors! But I was born with that. That's basically missing a fibula," Jundt explained.Born in Inner Mongolia, he was adopted by a Kenosha couple at age seven."They lost three kids. Two to an hour of life. And one for six years. Cancer, and yeah, it was just rough, they went through a lot of hardship and pain. But God said 'you know what? This is not the end of your story. Your story is still continuing. And I am going to let you adopt a son, and two more kids,'" Jundt said of his adoptive parents.Jundt says his faith keeps him going, and remembers a time talking to another media outlet about it. "I remember one news station didn't put it in, and I'm like 'please, put my faith in there.' Because my faith, is what got me here. Because of God. I am here," Jundt says.
