A Texas man has been arrested after police said he was searching the dark web for a young girl to kill and to eat.Alexander Nathan Barter, age 21 of Shelby County, Texas, is in police custody ... he allegedly told an undercover officer of his plan, KTRE television station reports. He allegedly wrote a post on the dark web seeking others to help him commit necrophilia and cannibalism, KTRE reports. He gave two encrypted email addresses, and a special agent working undercover contacted him.The agent told Barter he had a daughter he could kill, and when Barter went to meet who he believed would be an accomplice and his "daughter," he was arrested.Barter is in jail and faces charges of criminal solicitation, criminal attempt: capital murder, conspiracy to commit capital murder and criminal attempt: sexual performance on a child, all felonies, KTRE?reports. 882

A typical delivery turned into a personal moment for one Michigan military family and an Amazon delivery driver.Amanda LeCureaux of New Baltimore, Michigan says she received a notification on her phone from her smart doorbell about an incoming delivery on Dec. 12 and turned on the camera to see what was coming.“I started to play it…and it showed him saluting, and I was like, ‘oh my gosh,’” LeCureaux said.The delivery driver dropped off a package, stepped back from the porch and saluted the house before leaving.The reason for the salute? A new study takes a closer look at the impact the amount of time children spend on cell phones, computers and TV is having on their brains.“What they're finding, or what they're reporting, is that more screen time--in fact a lot of screen time, around 7 hours a day--is associated with changes in the brain and changes in cognition,” says Rachel Barr, a developmental psychologist.Dr. Barr studies the impact TVs, computers and cell phones can have on young children.Kids between the ages of 8 and 12 spend generally six hours a day, while teens are spending nearly nine hours.While Dr. Barr agrees too much time can have negative impacts, she points out what children watch on their devices matter.“Exposure to education programing in younger children is associated with better outcomes and especially for children who are growing up in low resourced communities,” Dr. Barr explains.As for what parents can do: set time limits and ground rules, like keeping screens out of the bedroom, which can make it easier for children to fall and stay asleep.“Setting up this family media plan, being mindful of your own media use and your child's media use, even though you're being bombarded by all of these changes in media yourself,” suggests Dr. Barr. 1254

A new video is sparking debate on whether a father went too far in disciplining his daughter for bullying.“My beautiful daughter is going to walk 5 miles to school in 36-degree weather,” says the Matt Cox, in a video posted to his Facebook page.It's the latest example of a parent shaming their child.In the video, Cox explains his 10-year-old daughter was suspended from riding the school bus for a second time after bullying another student. So, instead of driving her, he made her walk 5 miles to school.“I know a lot of you parents are not going to agree with this, but that is alright, because I am doing what I feel is right to teach my daughter a lesson,” Cox says.The father has received both support and criticism online, but experts say shaming can negatively impact a child.“What happens is the child incorporates that negative image of themselves and that can cause a lot of problems,” says Dr. Robert Sege.Those problems include depression and anxiety, says Dr. Sege, who co-wrote the American Academy of Pediatrics Policy on discipline. The policy takes a strong stance against spanking.Effective discipline varies by age, but Dr. Sege says there's a common factor that parents should apply to children of all ages.“That's the bottom line message that parents should be consistently sending to their children when they misbehave,” says Dr. Sege. “That they know their children are capable of good behavior. A Monroe County woman is facing second-degree murder charges after police say she decapitated her seven-year old son in her Sweden, New York home Thursday night.According to 13 WHAM in Rochester, court documents show Hanane Mouhib, 36, used "a large-bladed kitchen knife to intentionally stab [the boy] in the upper-left area of the back." The victim, Abraham Cardenas, was a first-grade student at Barclay Elementary School in the Brockport School District. Monroe County Sheriff Todd Baxter said several other people, including children, were in the home at the time of the attack. Mouhib graduated from nursing school at the College at Brockport in May 2011.Officials at Rochester Regional Health System told 13 WHAM Mouhib worked as a nurse practitioner at Genesee Mental Health from January 2016 through January 2017.The town of Sweden sits on the western edge of Monroe County, and is bordered on the west by Orleans County and on the south by Genesee County.  1019
