The longstanding 'Tribute in Light' tradition is back on with a new partner, according to that group's CEO.Frank Siller, CEO of Tunnel to Towers, told PIX11 News Friday that his group will put on the annual towers of light on Sept. 11, 2020. It had been previously canceled earlier in the week due to COVID-19 concerns for crews that put on the tribute. No other details were available, other than that the tribute is a "done deal," a foundation spokesperson said. They did not elaborate. The Tunnel to Towers website said Friday, “The foundation is doing everything in its power to make sure that the towers of light will once again be illuminated.”The 'Tribute in Light' was canceled because of concerns over the coronavirus pandemic, 9/11 Memorial and Museum spokesman Michael Frazier said. The annual reading of the names was also recently canceled. It is put on annually by the 9/11 Memorial and Museum.“The world’s beloved twin beams of light regrettably will not shine over lower Manhattan as part of this year's tributes to commemorate 9/11," Frazier said. "This incredibly difficult decision was reached in consultation with our partners after concluding the health risks during the pandemic were far too great for the large crew required to produce the annual Tribute in Light."Nearly 40 people usually work in close proximity for several weeks to produce the 'Tribute in Light' each year. The 9/11 Memorial and Museum planned to partner with NYC & Company and buildings throughout the city to light up their facades and spires in blue in commemoration of the 19th anniversary of 9/11."In a spirit of unity and remembrance, the city will come together for a 'Tribute in Lights' to inspire the world and honor the promise to never forget," Frazier said.Nearly 3,000 people were killed on Sept. 11, 2001 when hijacked planes slammed into the World Trade Center. Kyle Rittenhouse's attorney has filed a motion to dismiss two charges late Tuesday.According to court records, they seek to dismiss Possession of a Dangerous Weapon by a Person Under 18, and First Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, Use of a Dangerous Weapon.Rittenhouse is facing a total of six charges, including two counts of 1st-Degree Reckless Homicide after prosecutors say he shot and killed two people and wounded a third during protests in Kenosha.Attorney Mark Richards argues in Tuesday's filing that possession of a dangerous weapon by a person under 18 should be dismissed because "the complaint [filed against Rittenhouse] fails to allege facts which could allow a reasonable person to conclude that a crime was committed."In regard to first-degree recklessly endangering safety, Richards writes that "no reasonable person could find that this crime was ever committed. Thus, the criminal complaint is defective and Count 2 should be dismissed." FILE - In this Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2020, file photo, Kyle Rittenhouse carries a weapon as he walks along Sheridan Road in Kenosha, Wis., during a night of unrest following the weekend police shooting of Jacob Blake. Rittenhouse's defense team has called him a member of a militia. Rittenhouse is accused of killing two people and seriously wounding a third.(Adam Rogan/The Journal Times via AP, File) The motion comes a day before Rittenhouse is set to attend his pretrial hearing in Kenosha County Court, on Dec. 3 at 10:30 a.m.Prosecutors allege Rittenhouse shot and killed Anthony M. Huber and Joseph Rosenbaum, and wounded Gaige Grosskreutz during protests in Kenosha on Aug. 25.Supporters of the Black Lives Matter movement paint Rittenhouse as a white supremacist and militia member. Rittenhouse and his attorneys argue that he acted in self-defense, an argument that has become a rallying cry for some on the right. If convicted, Rittenhouse could spend life behind bars. This article was written by Jackson Danbeck for WTMJ. 2040

The Trump campaign tells 13 Action News that President Donald Trump will travel to Nevada on the dates planned, and that additional details will be announced soon, after reports that his rallies this weekend were canceled.Mr. Trump was initially scheduled to visit Reno on Saturday to host a "Great American Comeback Event" and then visit Las Vegas for a second rally in the state the next day. It is not clear if Trump is traveling for the rallies or for new events. 13 Action News has reached out for clarification. The campaign is also accusing Democrats of trying to prevent Trump from speaking to voters but did not offer an example or explanation. Read the full statement from Tim Murtaugh, the Trump 2020 communications director, below: Democrats are trying to keep President Trump from speaking to voters because they know the enthusiasm behind his re-election campaign cannot be matched by Joe Biden – a historically weak candidate controlled by the radical left who could hold a campaign event in a broom closet. The President’s uplifting message of American greatness resonates with people, while everyone knows that Biden is a tool of the radical left who would raise taxes and tank the incredible comeback that is already underway. President Trump will be traveling to Nevada on the dates planned. Additional details will be announced soon. Gov. Steve Sisolak, a Democrat, responded to reports of the canceled rallies on Twitter this morning, saying his office has not spoken to the Trump campaign about the rallies.Read the governor's Tweets below: The Governor’s Office had no involvement or communication with the event organizers or potential hosts regarding the proposed campaign events advertised by the Trump campaign.Current statewide emergency directives include mandatory face coverings, limitations on public and private gatherings to no more than 50 people, and other measures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.The Nevada-specific White House recommendations have consistently included recommendations to limit the size of gatherings for weeks now. McCarran Airport, one of the airports the campaign announced would host a rally, tells ABC News it has not been contacted by the Trump campaign about the event, even though the event had been announced days ago.Up north, The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority said in a statement that a campaign rally with a 5,000-person gathering would be in violation of their lease agreements due to Gov. Sisolak’s directive of no gatherings in excess of 50 people and that the event goes against Washoe County’s recommendation to limit the number to 25 or less.Daren Griffin, president/CEO of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority, said in the statement: “We would hold our tenants to the same standard whether it was a Democratic or Republican rally or any other type of gathering. We are complying with the Governor’s directive and Washoe County’s recommendation during a pandemic.”Griffin continued and said, "After reviewing the lease, the airport’s attorney found the rally would be in violation of Directive 021 from the Nevada Governor. “This has nothing to do with politics. The letter we sent is about directives and safety and not political campaigns.” ADDITIONAL RESPONSESThis morning, former state AG Adam Laxalt, a Republican, said on Twitter that the reported cancellations were "Outrageous!"He called them "partisan political retribution" and "unprecedented," though he did not offer any supporting evidence for those claims. Read his tweet below: Outrageous! @realDonaldTrump rally venues in NV canceled. Welcome to Sisolak’s Nevada – home of partisan political retribution. This is unprecedented – to cancel an incumbent President’s campaign stop inside 60 days of a major contested election in a swing state. This isn’t over! Similarly, the Nevada Democrats issued a statement responding to reports of the cancellations: The fact that Donald Trump was even considering holding these unsafe events in the midst of a global pandemic is just the latest example of his poor judgment and complete disregard for Nevadans’ public health and safety. The state is currently reeling from a pandemic exacerbated by Trump's disastrous coronavirus response. Limitations on in-person gatherings in Nevada were established to fill the void in leadership created by Trump. Thanks to emergency directives implemented by state leadership, great progress has been made in controlling deadly outbreaks. Trump is only the victim of his own incompetence. A police body-camera recording released Wednesday shed more light on the house party that earned six Miami University students citations for violating COVID-19 health orders over Labor Day weekend. There were 20 people inside the house on Saturday afternoon, when an Oxford police officer arrived to break up the party. In the recording, he approaches a group of young men sitting outside and asks to speak to someone who lives in the house. One steps forward and admits he knows he’s broken the state’s rule against gatherings larger than 10 people. The officer takes his ID, runs it through a police database and discovers that its owner had tested positive for COVID-19.This exchange follows:Officer: I’ve never seen this before. There’s an input on the computer that you tested positive for COVID.Student: Yes.Officer: When was this?Student: This was a week ago.Officer: Are you supposed to be quarantining?Student: Yeah. That’s why I’m at my house.Officer: So you have other people here, and you’re positive for COVID?Student: I mean…Officer: You see the problem? How many other people have COVID?Student: They all do.Officer: Everybody has it?Student: Well, and them — [gestures to house across the street]Officer: And everybody over here has it?Student: Well, I think two.Officer: That’s what we’re trying to prevent, man.Student: I know.Officer: We’re trying to keep this town open.Student: I know. That’s why I’m staying home.Six men who lived in the house were cited, a civil penalty that carries no criminal charge but comes with a 0 fine.Miami University has been the single largest contributor to Butler County’s case count since mid-August, according to Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine. He and Miami University president Gregory Crawford attribute the school’s cases — 1,084 of them, most diagnosed in the last two weeks — to off-campus house parties exactly like the one recorded over the weekend.Although Miami delayed the start of in-person instruction, Crawford said upperclassmen moved back into town in August and began partying when they got there."Those early weekends in August, we saw an uptick in parties and gatherings,” he said. “I think that’s what is responsible for the surge today.”It’s a surge that is, for now, unique among schools in the Cincinnati area. The University of Cincinnati, a similarly-sized campus, recorded only 147 cases in the last two weeks.Miami has instituted a mandatory testing policy for students, and Crawford on Wednesday announced the school would resume in-person classes starting Sept. 21.A university spokesperson did not respond to questions about whether the students involved in Saturday’s party would be suspended. A 72-year old woman was gored by a bison in Yellowstone National Park on Thursday, June 25.A news release from park officials says the tourist approached within 10 feet of a bison several times to take its photo, and the bison gored her. It happened Thursday evening at the woman's campsite at Bridge Bay Campground.Rangers provided immediate medical care to the woman who sustained numerous goring wounds. She was then flown via helicopter to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.“The series of events that led to the goring suggest the bison was threatened by being repeatedly approached to within 10 feet,” said Yellowstone’s senior bison biologist, Chris Geremia. “Bison are wild animals that respond to threats by displaying aggressive behaviors like pawing the ground, snorting, bobbing their head, bellowing, and raising their tail. If that doesn’t make the threat (in this instance it was a person) move away, a threatened bison may charge. To be safe around bison, stay at least 25 yards away, move away if they approach, and run away or find cover if they charge.”This is the second incident of a bison injuring a visitor in 2020; the park re-opened several weeks ago after a prolonged COVID-19 closure.Several recent incidents involving visitors and wildlife at Yellowstone:Earlier this month, a visitor was knocked to the ground after getting too close to a bison. In July 2019, a group of about 50 people got too close to a bison, which then charged and knocked a 9-year-old girl into the air. Click here for details and video.A visitor to Yellowstone recorded in May of 2019 a small dog running around and barking at two bison .In July of 2018, a man was caught on camera taunting a bison on a road in Hayden Valley. He was later sentenced to 130 days in jail by a federal judge in Wyoming. In September of 2018, a man was knocked down by an elk while standing on the side of the road. He was not injured.Park officials say that animals in Yellowstone National Park are wild. When an animal is near a trail, boardwalk, parking lot, or in a developed area, visitors must give it space. Stay 25 yards away from all large animals – bison, elk, bighorn sheep, deer, moose, and coyotes - and at least 100 yards away from bears and wolves. The Bison is the largest mammal in North America. Males can weigh up to 2,000 pounds and stand up to six feet tall, according to the Department of Interior. This article was written by David Sherman for KRTV. 2477
