It’s part of a recent software update on smartphones.Now, Virginia is the first state to make an app using the technology. It's called COVIDWISE. It's similar to contact tracing but isn't exactly the same.COVIDWISE uses Bluetooth technology to measure distance between different people and how much time they've spent together. Both people need to have the app installed.Users will receive an alert if someone around them tests positive for coronavirus and it won't reveal who it was.While not everybody needs to have the app, the more people who do, the better.“For every one to two app users, you're potentially averting one infection, so I think that's a good take-home message,” said Jeff Stover, Executive Program Advisor at the Virginia Department of Health. “So, obviously the more of them there are, the more potential infections that we avert.”The app is really only meant to notify people if they've been exposed to the coronavirus. It's not meant to eliminate traditional contact tracing.“Traditional contact tracing is still important. It is still required. It's really how we get in touch with people to determine if they have questions, if they have prevention activities that they need to figure out,” said Stover.Another thing about the app is that it does not use location data. Virginia's health department says there's really no need for it, especially because that type of data doesn't really show the distance between people.Right now, the app can only be used in Virginia, but the state of North Dakota has said the app will be available for use there soon. 1680

GRANTVILLE, CA (KGTV) - A temporary relocation is becoming permanent for one Navy sailor.A driver backed into a hydrant in February causing flooding to 10 units at the Mission Heights Condominiums in Grantville.Cody Downs was among the affected and hoping to move back in after his apartment was repaired, all while others affected moved out.The active duty sailor says he was told by the management association in February that he could likely move back in by March. “It was just missed deadline after missed deadline,” said Downs.On Tuesday, Downs signed his 30-day clearance notice after the owner he was renting from told him they were selling the unit because of mounting delays from the management association and contractor.“I was intending on living here for the foreseeable future,” said Downs, “to have that taken away from me without any regard or any doing is just devastating.”The management company for the building First Service Residential could not provide a comment but said over the phone that repairing the affected apartments was ’98% resolved.’Downs is searching for a new place now, but he just wishes he didn’t take them for their word. "There was no verification process and I just kept giving trust and trust and maybe in a way I was the betrayed fool,” said Downs, “at the end of the day I lost my home.”  1375

GREELEY, Colo. — A Colorado woman says she was denied a haircut at a local Great Clips because her baby son was not wearing a mask.Meri Smith decided she was finally ready to get a haircut. It would have been her first one since the COVID-19 pandemic reached the U.S. in March.She made an online appointment at Great Clips, and when she went to the salon to check-in, she was told that her son "can't come in" to the building."They said you can't come in because he's under two and he can't wear a mask," Smith said.Smith said she was confused and humiliated by the situation. As a teacher, she's familiar with Colorado's statewide mask mandate and she knows it doesn't apply to children who are 10 and younger."I just felt rejected. It made me sad and uncomfortable that I couldn't go get a haircut just because my son was a baby," Smith said.A spokesperson for Great Clips released the following statement from Michelle Iacovetta, the COO of Holtzman Enterprises, Inc. and a Great Clips franchisee."Holtzman Enterprises, Inc. does not require children under two years of age to wear a mask in our salons, following guidance from the CDC and the American Academy of Pediatrics. Just this week, Special Counsel Robert Mueller says someone offered a woman money to fabricate sexual harassment claims against him.“It doesn’t matter what your political affiliation is, there’s this sense in politics that winning is the most important thing,” Stumpf says.A new poll finds found 4 in 10 surveyed believe the movement has gone too far.
