SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A firefighter suffered a minor hand injury Thursday morning while working to extinguish a fire that damaged a North Park business, authorities said.The blaze was reported around 5:30 a.m. at a single-story business on El Cajon Boulevard near Illinois Street, just west of Interstate 805, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.Crews responded to the scene and found smoke and flames coming from the roof of the building, the agency reported. No one was inside the building at the time and firefighters knocked down the flames within about 20 minutes.One firefighter was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital for treatment of a minor hand injury.The cause of the blaze was under investigation. 724

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The Utah Amber Alert has been activated for a 6-year-old boy who was abducted Saturday night.Investigators are looking for Terran Alexander Butler and his mother, 43-year-old Emily Jolley.Terran is Caucasian, 4 feet tall, 40 pounds, with blond hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing black gym shorts, hiking boots, and a green t-shirt with blue sleeves.Jolley is 5 feet 8 inches tall, 140 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 22-year-old man was stabbed through his car's open window Sunday in City Heights, and the suspect was still at large, police said.The victim was sitting in his car on Menlo Avenue north of El Cajon Boulevard around 12:20 p.m. when another man approached the car and stabbed him through the window, San Diego police Officer Sarah Foster said.The suspect, described as an Asian man in his 40s, ran away. The victim was taken to a local hospital for injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, Foster said.Police are investigating. 573

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A former Navy police officer who engaged in sexual acts with a 14-year-old Oceanside girl after convincing her on social media to send him sexually explicit photos, was sentenced 20 years in federal prison Monday.Isaiah Smallwood Jackson of Vista was convicted last fall of sexual exploitation of a minor and enticement of a minor after he convinced the girl to send him nude photos, then meet for sex outside her home. He was 21 at the time and is now 23.Following his prison term, Jackson will be on supervised released for 10 years and will be required to register as a sex offender, which will preclude him from initiating contact with minors, loitering in places primarily frequented by minors, or using the Internet unless the device can be monitored by U.S. probation officers.RELATED: Jury convicts man of using social media to convince 14-year old to have sex with himProsecutors say Jackson met the girl on an app called "Spotafriend." Her online profile indicated she was 14 years old, yet when she asked Jackson if it was bad that she still wanted to "cuddle" with him, he told her, "Not at all, is it bad that I don't care about your age?" according to court documents.The two continued talking over text messages, during which he attempted to persuade her to meet up with him for sex, despite her stating she was nervous and unsure if they should meet.Jackson responded by telling her, "Please I'm dying to see you."When she said, "I know it's hard to say yes because I only known you for 2 days over the phone," Jackson responded, "Take a leap of faith?" according to court documents.Eventually, he went to the girl's home, where they engaged in sexual acts outside the house.After he left, the victim told her sister, who contacted police. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 24-year-old La Jolla man who was wearing a Jesus costume when he sucker-punched a San Diego police officer at a Gaslamp District Halloween street festival was sentenced Thursday to 270 days in jail, which will be served on weekends.Eric Van Vleet, who was arrested in Idaho's Cassia County four days after the Nov. 1, 2019, attack, pleaded guilty last year to a felony count of battery on a peace officer resulting in injury.San Diego County Superior Court Judge Melinda J. Lasater ordered that Van Vleet serve his time in county jail on 35 consecutive three-day weekends, totaling 105 days, with the rest of the time earned through custody credits.
