BEIJING, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislature Sunday initiated a nationwide inspection over Agricultural Techniques Promotion Law in an effort to boost the development of the country's vast rural area while ensuring the nation's food security.Three inspection teams from the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) will travel to six provinces and municipalities for supervision of the inspection in late August and September. Another eight teams from provincial level legislatures will be authorized to supervise the enforcement of the Agricultural Techniques Promotion Law and the Seed Law.Wu Bangguo, Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, said the inspection teams should push local governments forward to pay more attention to popularizing agricultural techniques, transform techniques into increased agricultural output and raise the incomes of farmers.Promoting agricultural techniques and increasing technology's contribution to agricultural development is the fundamental method to resolve the agricultural difficulties caused by limited resources and markets in China, said Uyunqimg, Vice Chairwoman of the NPC Standing Committee.The Agricultural Techniques Promotion Law was passed by the top legislature and began to be put into use in 1993, which aims at promoting more adoption of scientific and technological achievements in agricultural production to assure the modernization of the nation's agriculture.Statistics show the ratio of scientific and technological contributions to agricultural growth in China has increased from 26 percent in 1993 to 51 percent in 2009.

HANOI, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- The cooperation among China, Japan and the Republic of Korea (ROK) is an important part of East Asian cooperation, and the correct direction of the tripartite cooperation should be firmly kept from a strategic perspective, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said Friday at a meeting of leaders of the three countries.The cooperation among China, Japan and the ROK, an important part of East Asian cooperation, has been developing soundly with the efforts of the three countries, Wen said when meeting with South Korean President Lee Myung-bak and Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan.The three countries should attach strategic importance to the cooperation among them and steer it in the right direction. HEFEI, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- China's top 500 enterprises reported smaller revenue gaps with their U.S. counterparts, while outperforming their worldwide competitors in profitability amid the nation's rapid economic recovery, an industrial ranking report showed Saturday.China's top 500 enterprises chalked up 4.05 trillion U.S. dollars in operating revenues last year, equivalent to about 18 percent of the operating revenue total created by the world's top 500 companies in the same year, and the ratio was 2.62 percentage points lower than the figure recorded for the year earlier, according to a report released Saturday in Hefei, capital of east China's Anhui Province, by the China Enterprise Confederation (CEC) and China Enterprise Directors Association.The average profit margin of China's top 500 enterprises was 5.44 percent in 2009, compared with 4.16 percent for the world's top 500 companies.Further, the net profits of the Chinese heavyweights grew by more than 20 percent last year, faster than the 17 percent for the world's top 500. It was the second consecutive year that Chinese enterprises outshone theirforeign counterparts in annual profits.Miao Rong, researcher with CEC, said despite the progress, China's top 500 enterprises obviously suffered from the impact of the global financial crisis as they reported slower growth in new employment and business revenues.However, unlike the world's top 500 companies, most of which are service and high tech giants, a lion's share of China's top 500 businesses are traditional industrial enterprises in the fields of energy development, telecommunications and power generation, Miao noted."It is a tough job, in the short-term, to make Chinese corporations catch up with their foreign counterparts in terms of 'soft power' , such as the capability of resource integration, management expertise, brand building and intellectual property protection," he added.Sinopec, Asia's leading refinery, topped the top 500 revenue list for the fifth consecutive year with 1.39 trillion yuan (about 204.41 billion U.S. dollars) in 2009. It was followed by the State Grid and PetroChina.Also, private businesses were growing rapidly as five companies reported operating revenues exceeding 100 billion yuan. Huawei Technology Co Ltd, a telecommunication equipment producer, recently leaped into the world's top 500 enterprises club.

HONG KONG, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong stocks gained 45.12 points, or 0.21 percent to close Wednesday's trading at 22,047.71.The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 22,229.18 and 22, 021.6 on a turnover of 69.08 billion HK dollars (about 8.9 billion U.S. dollars).All the four sub-indices of the benchmark index landed in the positive territory, with properties advancing the most by rising 1. 2 percent.Heavyweight HSBC slid 0.49 percent to 81.1 HK dollars, extending its falling streak to the third day this week.
