SAN DIEGO, California — An 18-year-old San Diego woman died and her 16-year-old cousin were injured in a crash on Interstate 10 on the way to the Coachella Music Festival in Indio, a friend told KGTV television station in San Diego.Federico Pedrazzini confirmed Ginevra Gallone-Latte died in the crash in Banning early Thursday morning. (KGTV) - An alleyway in Hillcrest has transformed from dark and dirty to a work of art, and the revision isn’t complete yet.Patric Stillman is the owner of The Studio Door, an art gallery positioned in front of the alleyway. He said artists have been adding their work to the walls of the alleyway and it’s now grown into its own gallery that they’ve dubbed “mural alley.”“This was a pretty grungy space and over the past year we’ve been able to bring in some remarkable local muralists,” said Stillman.While artists continue to work on blank walls in the area, the Hillcrest Business Association is stepping in to take the space to the next level. Benjamin Nicholls, the Hillcrest Business Association Executive Director, said they’re asking the community for donations to fund-raise and add string lights that zig zag across the top of the alleyway.“Hillcrest mural alley is going to become a destination and it’s going to be a creative community destination,” said Nicholls.Nicholls added that in a coronavirus era when activities are safest outdoors, they hope this space will become an outdoor entertainment and event area.Even without the addition of the lights, it’s already catching eyes. Mother daughter duo Brooke and Linda Castro said they were walking to lunch in Hillcrest and noticed the art, then changed their route to walk by it.“We saw this so we decided we needed to walk down the alley to see everything,” said Linda.They said they could envision the space with lights and would welcome the addition because it would highlight the art, but also bring a level of safety.“I think this would become a more popular area just because of the artwork and the lighting,” said Linda.Donations to the project can be made here. San Diego (KGTV)- Heart- pounding moments for visitors at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Powerful gusts tossed riders on the Balloon Safari from side to side. Riders on the balloon held on tight during the gusty landing. “There were some points where the basket was almost tipped completely sideways,” says Jordan Lapidot, who was visiting the park with her family yesterday afternoon. “I have this image in my mind of this guy, and he’s grabbing the outside of the cage as they get just thrown.”The San Diego Zoo Safari Park says the balloon has a long cable in the middle of the cage that safely brings it down from the sky. That cable never broke during the windy ride. “They were trying to get it down as quickly as possible,” says Lapidot. The Safari Park tells 10News if the wind reads over 29 miles per hour they will shut the ride down. They sent us a statement about the incident, saying in part: “As the sudden storm arrived and winds picked up, some operations at the Park, like Balloon Safari and Flightline were closed to public use.”No one was hurt while on the ride. 1090

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- Proposed plans to restore the Mission Bay wetlands have been released by the group ReWild Mission Bay.Organizers say those plans would include moving a popular campsite in the area. The “Campland on the Bay” site would have to be relocated after 50 years.Neighbors who live near the area say the possible move is disappointing. “I was just telling my sister who is out of town this place is legendary. People come here all times of the year.”Managers at the campsite say they’ve extended their lease another five years but it could change depending on the project.Organizers of the expansion say the existing wetlands in Mission Bay may not be here in years to come.“The way it is now wetlands will be overtaken by sea level rise,” says Jim Peugh with the San Diego Audubon Society. “One has to plan ahead to make sure we have wetlands in the future.”Those plans would include giving tourists and locals easier access to the land. It will also give wildlife a larger nesting area.A statement from Campland on the Bay says in part:“We remain hopeful the City will continue to provide this amenity for local residents for another 50 years. The public does not have to choose between waterfront camping and wetlands – both uses can support one another as Campland has proven for the past half-century.”Organizers of the expansion says there is no exact timeline on when restoration will take place. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — California lawmakers will consider next year whether to decriminalize psychedelic drugs. The San Francisco Chronicle reports state Sen. Scott Wiener said Tuesday that he plans to introduce a bill decriminalizing possession of hallucinogenic mushrooms and other psychedelics. Oakland adopted a resolution last year decriminalizing certain natural psychedelics that come from plants and fungi. Oregon last week became the first state to legalize psychedelic mushrooms.
