SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — As a woman lay paralyzed from a horrific accident, police say someone was inside her car, stealing from her.  The search for that thief is now turning to San Diego County."She was the nicest, most wonderful person I've ever known," said Don Nelson.Nelson says his wife of 27 years, Terri, was on her way to pick up her father for a hospital trip in August when a truck rear-ended her car at a stoplight in Riverside.  As she lay with her neck broken, amid the commotion of bystanders and first responders coming to her aid, police say someone got into her car and stole her purse.Detectives say within days of the accident, surveillance images show her using Terri's credit cards and writing checks in her name. Nelson says as some ,000 worth of purchases were made at various businesses, from fast food restaurants and Albertsons to Costco."I think that's the lowest form of life that could possibly be. You have to be a sorry person to do something like that," said Nelson.For three months, Terri was paralyzed and on a ventilator, until she passed last week from complications from the accident.  Her husband's grief is not the only emotion that consumes him. There is also anger. He's still dealing with collection agencies seeking money from the thief's shopping spree.  During that crime spree, police believe the woman rented a Nissan Rogue in Terri's name, before the CHP pulled that car over on a highway in San Diego County. The two men inside the car have yet to lead detectives to the woman, but police hope tips from the public will."I just can't believe a lightning bolt didn't strike the person. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Controversial Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel made an unexpected appearance in San Diego Thursday.Manziel threw passes during the "Pro Day" at the University of San Diego, where NFL scouts gathered to evaluate some Toreros seniors. They also took notes on the former Texas A&M star.Manziel, who currently lives in the L.A. area, has been working with San Diego-based quarterback guru George Whitfield, Jr. on his game.He flamed out after just two seasons with the Cleveland Browns.Manziel’s personal troubles include an arrest for disorderly conduct, an altercation with his girlfriend, and time in rehab for an unspecified issue. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Community activists spoke Friday at Lincoln High School, demanding a long-time teacher be removed amid allegations of racist and sexual comments made to students.The school board launched an investigation and put a monitor in the classroom at the Lincoln Park school.Activist Tasha Williamson went live on her Facebook page Monday at the school.“You better talk to our children like you would talk to your own children. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- County health officials are notifying people who may have been exposed to tuberculosis at locations throughout San Diego County. According to County News Center, three unrelated cases of the disease were reported in San Diego County between August 20 and October 18. Two of the cases were reported at San Diego County Sheriff’s detention facilities. RELATED: Tuberculosis case confirmed at San Diego Airport, exposure risk extremely lowThe third case was found in a person who arrived from out of town after being diagnosed with TB and spent time at one of the city’s bridge shelters. Investigators believe the individual arrived in San Diego after leaving a Long Beach hospital without permission. The third person died from “co-occurring medical conditions” at a local hospital on October 6. The periods of exposure are listed below: Aug. 20 to Sept. 6, 2019 at the San Diego Central Jail Detention FacilitySept. 6 to Sept. 15, 2019 at the George Bailey Detention FacilityOct. 16 to Oct. 18, 2019 at the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry FacilityAug. 20, 2019 to Sept. 9, 2019 at the 16th St. and Newton Ave. bridge shelterThe sheriff’s department is offering free testing for its staff and all identified people in custody while the County Health and Human Services Agency is offering free tests to those who may have been exposed and have no medical provider. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — City leaders welcomed a new North County park Wednesday, highlighted by a specially created area for the playground's most adventurous.Pacific Highlands Ranch Community Park sports five acres of turf field, two dog parks, playground and "discovery play" area, skate plaza, and San Diego's first free, public parkour area and bike pump track.The park also includes a 17,000-square-foot recreation center, featuring a gymnasium, multi-purpose building, and outdoor courtyard. The center's solar panels also promise to lower the park's energy consumption by 36 percent, according to the city.RELATED: San Diego County park rangers recommend these trails in 2019The park is the 23rd park to open as part of Mayor Kevin Faulconer's ambition to open or improve 50 parks in five years.
