A group of California lawmakers is raising new questions about what the state is getting in return for the billions of dollars it has spent combating its homeless crisis.The seven lawmakers, all Republicans, are calling for an audit that will need bipartisan support to get going. In the last two years, California has invested .7 billion on homelessness, and Gov. Gavin Newsom is budgeting an additional .4 billion in next year's budget. Meanwhile, the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development says California's homeless population increased by 16 percent last year, or 21,306 people. "I don't know where that money is going, and it's being approved by the legislature," said State Sen. Brian Jones, Republican of San Diego County's 38th district, who is calling for the audit. "So if I don't know where it's going, how can the taxpayers know where it's going?"Newsom's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Last week, Newsom unveiled a proposal for .4 billion to overhaul medi-cal and create a new fund that would serve in part to help people on the brink of homelessness make rent. San Diego homeless advocate Michael McConnell, who is not a member of a political party, said he has been asking many of the questions those seeking the audit are raising. "We know the big buckets that the money just kind of disappears into, but what we don't do is we don't follow it all the way through to see how many folks were actually getting out of homelessness," he said. The state's Joint Legislative Audit Committee, comprised mostly of Democrats, will consider the audit request at its Feb. 19 meeting. The decision comes after renewed visibility of some of the actor’s comments, and recent conversations about removing statues and memorials of those who promoted hateful views."Conversations about systemic racism in our cultural institutions along with the recent global, civil uprising by the Black Lives Matter Movement require that we consider the role our School can play as a change maker in promoting antiracist cultural values and experiences," Assistant Dean of Diversity and Inclusion Evan Hughes said in a statement.While the statement from the University of Southern California did not directly mention it, Wayne’s legacy has been re-examined recently after a 1971 interview with Playboy went viral last year. A digital broadcast network jointly owned by the AMC, Cinemark and Regal chains is adding 200 movie theaters to its distribution of live events.The addition will happen throughout the next year to year-and-a-half in North American, Fathom Events announced this week. Fathom's expansion reaches to more than 1,100 total cinemas and 1,700 screens across the country, a report from Variety states. The expansion is part of an extended agreement with Dish Network that provides the delivery of pre-recorded and live cinema events.Theater chains with screens that will or already do carry live events include AMC, Cinemark, Regal, Harkins, Megaplex, Bow Tie and more.On Thursday, theaters showing Fathom events live will carry an advance screening of the first two episodes from the new YouTube Red Original Series, “Cobra Kai.” The series based on the Karate Kid franchise.Nearly 700 cinemas nationwide will host Thursday's screenings, Variety reported. 987

A man placed under suicide protocol has died in police custody.Early Sunday, Maryland State Police was contacted by the Carroll County Sheriffs Office, to investigate an in custody death.Officials say the detainee was being held at the Carroll County Detention Center on first degree assault charges. No details on the arrestee's identity have been released, pending next of kin notification.Maryland State Police Homicide detectives have taken the lead in the investigation.   510
