Democrats are hoping to flip the House of Representatives in Tuesday's 2018 midterm elections and Republicans are at serious risk of losing their majority in the lower chamber of Congress. While a Democratic victory is far from guaranteed, the party has been viewed as a slight favorite to win the House on Election Day. A Democratic win would deal a major blow to President Donald Trump's agenda in Congress and would be a significant victory for Democrats after the party was locked out of power in Washington following the 2016 presidential election. If Democrats take the House, the party will have more authority and fewer constraints on its ability to exercise oversight of the Trump administration and could launch investigations into the President's finances, including going after his tax returns, as well as ramp up a probe into the possibility that the Trump campaign colluded with the Russian government to win the White House, which Trump has denied. 969

DENVER, Colo. — It's been a long time coming for former Denver officer Daril Cinquanta, but persistence paid off.“I’ve been tracking this guy for 46 years,” Cinquanta said of fugitive Luis Archuleta.Their lives crossed paths almost 50 years ago in Denver, when Cinquanta was a rookie officer for the Denver Police Department. Cinquanta pulled Archueleta over for an ID check. When Cinquanta went to check for weapons, the two began fighting and Archuleta shot Cinquanta. Archuleta got away.“I took it personally, I won’t deny. So what better thing to do than chase him?” Cinquanta said.Eventually, Archuleta was arrested and convicted but escaped prison. Forty-six years later, Archuleta was still on the run and Cinquanta continued to chase him until earlier this summer, when Cinquanta got a tip.“On June 24, I get a phone call. This person says, ‘You know, I’ve been thinking about it, I’m going to tell you where your guy is who shot you.’ Out of the blue,” Cinquanta said.Archuleta was arrested earlier this week. This is what the Department of Justice wrote about the arrest:“Luis Archuleta, (aka Larry Pusateri), a former Colorado resident wanted by the FBI since 1977 on a charge of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution/confinement, has been apprehended and is being returned to Colorado following his arrest in Espa?ola, NM on August 5, 2020."A federal arrest warrant was issued for Archuleta in 1977 on charges stemming from his escape from a Colorado Department of Corrections facility in 1974. At the time of his escape, Archuleta was serving a prison sentence resulting from his 1973 conviction for assault of a police officer with a deadly weapon, which was prosecuted by the Denver District Attorney’s Office. This warrant remained active until 2018.On June 30, 2020, a new federal arrest warrant was re-issued for Archuleta by the U.S. District Court in Colorado for the charge of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution/confinement and his associated escape from a Colorado Department of Corrections facility.Archuleta, now 77 years old, had been residing in Espa?ola, New Mexico, for approximately four decades under the alias Ramon Montoya.FBI Denver Special Agent in Charge Michael Schneider said this arrest should send a clear signal to all violent offenders."The FBI will find you, no matter how long it takes or how far you run, and we will bring you to justice," he said.U.S. Attorney for the District of Colorado Jason R. Dunn said Archuleta’s arrest is another example of the benefits of the partnership between federal and local law enforcement. It was thanks to this collaboration that Archuleta was found, said Denver District Attorney Beth McCann.“Mr. Archuleta will at long last be held accountable for his actions,” she said.Dean Williams, executive director of Colorado Department of Corrections, said he’s grateful to the law enforcement partners who helped bring Archuleta back to Colorado to serve his sentence. Many members of the community were hurt by Archuleta, said Denver Police Chief Paul Pazen.“The passing of time does not erase or excuse his crimes,” he said. This story was originally published by Gary Brode at KMGH. 3167

DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) - For the past five days, five shark sightings have been reported off North San Diego County beaches, Del Mar lifeguards tell 10News. A juvenile shark, about 5 feet long, was spotted Friday afternoon. It did not show signs of aggressive behavior, lifeguards said. The water was not cleared of swimmers and surfers. Del Mar’s shark sightings started Monday and have continued every day this week. Sighting locations include 15th and 29th streets, City of Del Mar officials reported. Drew Pierce, who went to Del Mar to avoid triple-digit heat in Temecula, was in the water Wednesday when he saw several 3-4 foot long sharks. Enter at Your Own Risk.” Heidi Dewar, Research Biologist at the Southwest Fisheries Science Center, said sharks under 6 feet long are juveniles. They tend to eat smaller fish and pose no threat to people, Dewar said. Dewar recommends avoiding beaches at dusk and dawn, avoiding river mouths, and monitoring shark warning signs. Farther up the coast, two local surfers spotted multiple sharks near El Portal Beach in San Clemente Friday afternoon, City News Service reported. One of the sharks was about 10 feet long, prompting officials to close the beach at the 204 surf spot.A shark was also spotted off the coast of Coronado Wednesday. 1558

DENVER (AP) — The San Diego Padres know the reputation of Coors Field all too well."No game's ever over in this ballpark," manager Andy Green said. That's why comebacks are always possible — even one for the ages.Hunter Renfroe hit his third homer of the game in the 12th inning after Fernando Tatis Jr. tied it as part of a six-run rally in the ninth and the Padres stunned the Colorado Rockies 16-12 on Friday night. The Padres had never overcome a deficit of six or more runs in the ninth during a win or loss, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. On the flip side, the Rockies had never blown a lead of six or more runs in the ninth inning. That is, until now."We went from about as ugly as we could obviously play to as unbelievable as it can possibly be," Green said. This five-hour, four-minute marathon featured a combined 39 hits, 16 pitchers and plenty of dramatic twists. Coors Field has long been known for these sorts of wild affairs."Only here. It's frustrating," Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado said. "I feel like we haven't had too many games where it's like, 'Wow, it's a Coors Field game.' The last few years, we've cut those down. ... Just a really bad loss."Tatis led off the 12th with a triple to deep center and scored on pinch-hitter Austin Allen's double off reliever Jairo Diaz (1-1). Manny Machado added an RBI double and Renfroe hit a towering two-run homer to help wrap up an improbable win.Renfroe also had a solo shot in the second and two-run homer in the ninth for his second career three-homer game."What Hunter did today was ridiculous," Green said.Down 11-5 in the ninth, the Padres rallied off Rockies reliever Mike Dunn, who gave up a two-run single to Eric Hosmer, followed by Renfroe's homer. Closer Wade Davis allowed two singles and a walk before Tatis delivered a two-out, two-run single to center that tied the game."The team played a great game and I blew it," Dunn said.Craig Stammen (5-3) earned the win by pitching a scoreless 11th inning and Kirby Yates finished up the 12th.Machado had four hits, including a solo homer, while Rockies outfielder David Dahl capped a 12-pitch at-bat by lining a two-run shot in the third over the fence in left-center. Ian Desmond added a three-run, inside-the-park homer during a five-run sixth inning that helped the Rockies extend the lead to 9-3. It looked like it put the game out of reach. But things were just heating up as Colorado's bullpen faltered in allowing 15 runs."Coming back like that in the eighth, ninth and the 12th was special," Renfroe said.Trevor Story collected three hits before the smooth-fielding shortstop left the game in the eighth after a grounder by Renfroe took a bad hop, glanced off Story's glove and struck him in the head. Story suffered a bruised forehead, the team said.Charlie Blackmon had four hits, including a solo homer in the 12th, and is now hitting .437 at Coors Field this season. What's more, Blackmon's reached base in all 24 home games he's appeared in. 2993
