SAN JOSE, Calif. – A woman was caught on video intentionally coughing on a baby at a California yogurt shop after getting into an argument with the child’s mother.The San Jose Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying the woman, who they call an “assault suspect.”Police say the adult female suspect was standing in line inside a Yogurtland in front of the mother and her 1-year-old child, who was in a stroller.A preliminary investigation revealed the suspect was upset the mother was not maintaining proper social distancing, so she removed her face mask, got close to the baby’s face, and coughed two to three times, according to police.Video then shows the suspect leaving the business. SAN GABRIEL (CNS) - A multi-agency investigation was underway Sunday following a four-alarm fire that caused "extensive damage" to the historic 249-year-old San Gabriel Mission.Meanwhile, Los Angeles Archbishop Jose H. Gomez conducted a late- morning Mass at the Mission on Sunday and said a fundraising campaign is already underway to rebuild as the church's 250-year anniversary approaches."This destruction comes as we are getting ready to celebrate the 250th anniversary of this great mission. But this fire changes nothing. Mission San Gabriel will always be the spiritual heart of the Church in Los Angeles, the place from which the Gospel still goes forth," Gomez said during the homily."You trace your roots all the way back to the beginnings of the Christian faith in California, before the founding of the United States. In fact, you are one of the few Catholic communities in this continent that can claim to be founded by a saint. Last night I was praying to your founder, St. Junipero Serra, and reflecting on his words and witness," the archbishop continued. "And I thought, what would St. Junipero tell us this morning? And I remembered his beautiful little prayer: `Let us bear every hardship for the love of You and the salvation of souls. In our trials, may we know that we are loved as Your own children."'The San Gabriel Mission was founded by Franciscan Father Junipero Serra in 1771, a few miles southeast of Pasadena.Gomez was joined at Sunday's service by San Gabriel Mission pastor Father John Molyneux.The fire at 4:25 a.m. Saturday sent firefighters to 428 S. Mission Road, where the first to arrive reported a large column of smoke and flame coming from the corner of the roof, said Capt. Antonio Negrete of the San Gabriel Fire Department."During the course of the fire, portions of the roof fell upon the firefighters," Negrete said. "They were evacuated and initiated a defensive fire attack."The fire was knocked down at 6:48 a.m., he said. No injuries were reported."It's a tragic loss for our city. It's our city identifier," Negrete said. "We're trying to cope with it."The entire wood roof was gone, and the building sustained "extensive damage," including destruction of pews, he said, although the altar was saved.Negrete told the Los Angeles Times the bell tower and museum remained intact.On Saturday afternoon, investigators from the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and a regional task force including San Gabriel, Monterey Park, Monrovia and San Marino investigators were busy in the front of the mission where the fire was believed to have started, Negrete said. They could not get farther back because firefighters were still putting out hot spots, he said.A dog from the Los Angeles Fire Department was also on the scene sniffing to see if any accelerants were used to start the fire, Negrete said. A report on the cause was not expected for a week.The San Gabriel Fire Department said the initial investigation showed no sign of arson."We need to be diligent in our investigation and check all of the boxes," Negrete said. (KGTV) - Plans to add development around the Carlton Oaks Country Club golf course have neighbors arguing over the idea.The owner of Carlton Oaks submitted plans to the city that would add 71 single-family homes, 172 condo-style homes, a five-story hotel and event center, and a senior assisted living center to the area around the golf course. It would also redesign the course to make room for all the new development.Many of the single-family homes would be along the west end of the area along Inverness Road. Some people who live there say that the area can't handle more homes."They'd put houses right here, right behind my home," says Augie Scalzitti, who has lived in Santee for 41 years. "My shower is right over here. I could reach out and say, hey buddy, hey neighbor, hand me the soap, will ya!"Scalzitti says he's worried about losing his view of the golf course and the river. But he's also worried that the homes would be built in the 100-year flood plain. And he says adding homes would make traffic in the area unmanageable."No matter what they do, no matter what they promise, they could double the size of the freeway and the on-ramp, and it still wouldn't alleviate the problem," he says.Other neighbors on the street disagree. They say that kind of development is precisely what Santee needs. They told 10News it would add much-needed housing, and it would make the Country Club more of a destination, which would bring in visitors and more tax dollars.Mike Aiken, the director of the golf course, says they hope to build something that will benefit Santee. He also stressed that the current plans are just a starting point for development."Carlton Oaks has been a community asset here in Santee for nearly 60 years, and we are excited about our plans to significantly improve and update the property into a modern destination resort with a flagship hotel and all the other amenities that go with a modern resort," he told 10News in a statement. "Carlton Oaks wants to be good neighbors and members of our community by providing a quality sustainable project that Santee can be proud of long into the future."Aiken also says the golf course needs significant upgrades to its irrigation system. They've hired well-known golf course architect Cary Bickler, an SDSU alum, to redesign the course with the new system."Mr. Bickler knows every inch of our course and was the perfect choice to help redesign Carlton Oaks into a sustainable modern course, which will be challenging and fun for players of all abilities," Aiken says. "The new golf course will have a modern, efficient multi-million dollar irrigation system, which will help save millions of gallons of precious water. One of the great features of the new course is three brand new greens (holes 9, 16 and 18) will be surrounded by a new lake and water features and set just west of the new hotel and resort site and present an amazing view of the course and mountains to the west. We believe it will be one of the best views in the region, and the sunset views will be incredible."Aiken also says the development is necessary to keep the golf course open, as water costs rise and make it financially difficult to sustain. He points to several other golf courses around San Diego that have failed and closed. Some neighbors say they'd rather see this development happen than see the golf course turn into a vast wasteland.Despite the promises, people like Scalzetti say they won't change their minds. Scalzetti also says the plans violate rules in the current zoning and master plans for the community. He believes the fact that part of the development is in a flood plain means it also won't get past any environmental reviews.Scalzetti is hosting a neighborhood meeting at his home on Wednesday, November 13, at 6 pm. He wants to make sure his neighbors are aware of all his concerns.Officials with the City of Santee told 10News they don't have any official opinion on the development, as it is still in the very early stages of gaining approval. 4049

Search and rescue operations are underway off the coast of Japan for a U.S. Marine Corps F/A-18 fighter jet and KC-130 refueling tanker involved in a mishap, according to ABC News. Five people were onboard the tanker while two were onboard the jet. One person has so far been rescued. Officials later announced on Twitter that the person rescued was being evaluated as the search for the six missing Marines continues.
