BEIJING, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang has urged more efforts to maintain steady and rapid economic growth and accelerate the transformation of the economic development pattern over the next five years.Li made the remarks Wednesday at a seminar on goals and policies of China's key 12th Five-year (2011-2015) Plan, according to a statement by the State Council, or China's Cabinet, on Thursday.At the seminar, the State Council solicited advice from senior officials of Tianjin Municipality, Jilin, Jiangsu, Henan, Yunnan and Gansu provinces, on the draft of the guidelines of the five-year plan.After listening to suggestions from provincial-level officials, Vice Premier Li said it is imperative for local governments to accelerate the transformation of the economic development pattern, while maintaining steady and rapid economic growth in the long term to benefit all Chinese people.As for the work next year, Li said local governments should more actively and prudently handle the relationship between keeping steady and rapid economic development, restructuring the economy and managing inflation expectations."More efforts should be provided to stabilize prices next year," he told the seminar.When planning goals and strategies for the development over the next five years, Li said, major indicators, such as the economic growth rates, should be defined "reasonably" and binding targets should be emphasized.Over the next five years, China will open wider to the outside world, expand its domestic consumption, push the reform of the income distribution system, create more jobs and improve its basic public service and social security system, he said.Li noted that local governments should work hard to allow residents' income growth to keep pace with the economic growth rate, and assure that laborers' wage hikes reflect productivity increases.

BEIJING, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee met Tuesday in a meeting on anti-corruption, demanding greater efforts in addressing problems the masses complained about most and fighting corruption among grassroots officials.The meeting was presided over by General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and Chinese President Hu Jintao. The participants heard a report of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CPC over anti-corruption work for 2010 and discussed related plans for 2011.The meeting has called for further efforts to address problems concerning construction projects, and vehicles bought and used at public expenses.Those attending the meeting said regulations and disciplines that govern the selection of officials must be strictly followed and related unsound practices should be corrected.Noting that fighting corruption was still a tough task, the meeting urged all related authorities to step up anti-corruption efforts towards building a clean government.Further, more work must be done to improve officials' style of work and cement ties between the CPC and the masses, the meeting participants said.Also, the participants called for efforts towards building an improved anti-corruption system that consisted of corruption prevention and punishment.Such a move, they added, would facilitate the implementation of China's development blueprint for the 12th Five-Year-Plan period (2011-2015) and China's social and economic development.China will mark the 90th anniversary of CPC's founding next year. BEIJING, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Commerce (MOC) Friday welcomed ruling from the World Trade Organization (WTO) that the European Union (EU) anti-dumping duties on Chinese screws and bolts were discriminatory and are in violation of global commerce rules.For a long time, the EU has been requiring Chinese exporters to prove they meet with the "single duty" requirements when they are responding to anti-dumping cases, bringing a heavy burden and unfair treatment to Chinese companies, said an official with the MOC.In particular the WTO ruled the EU's single duty requirements and practices are discriminatory and violated WTO rules.China urged the EU to respect the WTO ruling and rid itself of codes or practices that go against WTO rules and treat Chinese exporters fairly to ensure normal trade between China and the EU, the official said.At the beginning of 2009, the EU decided to impose anti-dumping duties of up to 87 percent for the next five years on fasteners imported from China.The WTO set up an expert panel on Oct. 23, 2009 after China initiated the WTO case on July 31, 2009, saying anti-dumping measures taken by the EU against the import of Chinese steel fasteners violated WTO trade rules.
