It's a saying at the heart of a new experiment called itsblackandwhite.us.Ryan Berman, along with Ahab Nimry and several other marketing and advertising agency representatives say they wanted to figure out how to start a constructive conversation about things like race, implicit bias and equity."For one, getting perspective and understanding a bias you might have because you can't do anything about it if you can't spot it," said Berman.So they came up with a 10 question, online survey that asks things like, "Do you believe hard work puts you on your path for a promotion?Do you have a close friend that is black?""We're not trying to nudge you one way or the other, we're just trying to say hey pick a side lets start talking and work this out," explained Nimry.At the end, you get to see how other people responded and access links to learn more, donate to civil rights organizations, even register to vote.The creators say the idea is to share what they learn and then take all that data and develop a sort of "seal of approval" for consumers to know how different companies stack up."Launching almost a diversity/inclusion certification for organizations," said Berman. "It's not about calling out companies. San Diego, CA (KGTV)- Some high school students in the Grossmont Union High School District will return to partial in-person learning starting on September 29.Sixty-eight percent of parents surveyed districtwide wanted their high school students to return to an in-person, blended learning model, while 32 percent wanted their students to stay in full-time distance learning from home.The district is moving forward with both options.Starting Tuesday, some students will be back on campus with limitations."Students have to be divided into smaller groups," said Theresa Kemper, the district's superintendent.If parents chose the blended learning model, their student has been assigned to Group A, Group B, Group C, or Group D, based on factions like students per household, transportation needs, and course schedule."They each will come to school one day a week," she said.The group placement determines which day the students will come to campus; they will be learning from home the rest of the time.The district created a roadmap for reopening, which includes five levels."We want to make sure that we're really confident with new routines that have been established, we want to make sure the county health conditions are continuing to improve," said Kemper.All schools in the district have been operating at Level 1, which is strictly distance learning.Level 2 begins next week and allows students to learn on campus one day a week, with 25 percent of the campus population, in class sizes of eight to twelve students."Our Special Education academies and alternative schools are also starting at Level 2, but will attend two days a week instead of one," she said.All students will be screened and have their temperatures checked before entering the classroom, teachers, and staff will be tested for COVID-19 regularly, and everyone will be required to wear facial coverings.The schools will also be deep cleaned each day, and students will be physically distanced from one another."If everything looks good, after about two weeks, we could potentially announce going to the next level," said Kemper.By level five, students will be back on campus five days a week.Kemper said the district is taking a cautious approach and has plans in place if a school needs to jump back a level at any time."If we change from two days a week to one day a week, then we already got a plan in place, and it's easy to transition to that," she said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- Neighbors are shaken up after a home invasion in University City. “I wouldn’t have expected it because I feel like this area UTC especially is pretty safe,” says neighbor Alana Schnoor. San Diego police got the call early Monday morning, around 1 a.m, from the home in the 5300 block of Toscana Way.Two men wearing masks went inside of an unlocked apartment. One of them pointed a gun at the people inside, while the other grabbed phones and laptops. Police say one of the victims grabbed the gun and fought the robber. The intruder hit the man with the weapon, and both robbers ran out. “It’s a safe area. I just wouldn’t have expected someone with a gun going into an apartment like that,” said neighbor Amy Kaido. Police say the intruders were wearing green jackets with black stripes and black pants. Both men were in their 20’s. 860

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A woman who drove off a Northern California cliff last month in an SUV carrying her wife and children was drunk, authorities said Friday.Toxicology tests found Jennifer Hart had an alcohol level of 0.102, said California Patrol Capt. Bruce Carpenter. California drivers are considered drunk with a level of 0.08 or higher.Toxicology tests also found that her wife Sarah Hart and two of their children had "a significant amount" of an ingredient commonly found in the allergy drug Benadryl, which can make people sleepy. Toxicology results for a third child killed are still pending, Carpenter said.Carpenter said none of the car's occupants were wearing seatbelts.Sarah and Jennifer Hart and their six adopted children were believed to be in the family's SUV when it plunged off a cliff in Mendocino County, more than 160 miles (250 kilometers) north of San Francisco.Authorities have said that data from the vehicle's software suggested the crash was deliberate, though the California Highway Patrol has not concluded why the vehicle went off an ocean overlook on a rugged part of coastline. A specialized team of accident investigators is trying to figure that out with help from the FBI, Carpenter said.Five bodies were found March 26 near the small city of Mendocino, a few days after Washington state authorities began investigating the Harts for possible child neglect, but three of their children were not immediately recovered from the scene.Two more are missing and another body has been found but not identified.The 100-foot (31-meter) drop killed the women, both 39, and their children Markis Hart, 19; Jeremiah Hart, 14; and Abigail Hart, 14.
