New Zealand’s government has extended a lockdown of its largest city Auckland for another 12 days as it tries to stamp out its first domestic coronavirus outbreak in more than three months. The outbreak has grown to 30 people and extended beyond Auckland for the first time. Until the cluster was discovered Tuesday, New Zealand had gone 102 days without infections spreading in the community, with the only known cases travelers quarantined after arriving from abroad. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says extending the lockdown will give health authorities time to get a handle on the cluster and isolate those infected.According to Johns Hopkins University data, New Zealand has had 1,600 confirmed COVID-19 cases, the vast majority coming in March. The 1,600 cases resulted in 22 deaths. 798
NEW YORK (AP) -- The nation's largest beauty chain has a deal to place shops in more than 100 Target stores by mid-2021.Ulta Beauty and Target said Tuesday that the shops will be located next to Target's existing beauty sections. Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed. The partnership comes as the coronavirus pandemic has upended shopping habits. NEW YORK (KGTV) -- An explosion in Queens, New York turned the sky an eerie shade of blue Thursday night. Video posted on social media shows the sky glowing a light blue color as an explosion could be seen off in the distance. WABC reported that the incident was caused by a transformer explosion at a power plant. Utility company Con Edison spokesman Bob McGee told the Associated Press what happened was an "arc flash" — somewhat like a bolt of lightning — after a malfunction in equipment that carries 138,000 volts of electricity 20 feet (6 meters) up in the air. He said the flash subsided on its own.The incident sparked a power outage at LaGuardia Airport, forcing the FAA to issue a ground stop. NEW YORK (AP) — A former aide to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo who is now running for Manhattan borough president is accusing the Democratic governor of sexual harassment.Lindsey Boylan tweeted Sunday that she was sexually harassed by Cuomo "for years."Yes, @NYGovCuomo sexually harassed me for years. Many saw it, and watched. I could never anticipate what to expect: would I be grilled on my work (which was very good) or harassed about my looks. Or would it be both in the same conversation? This was the way for years.— Lindsey Boylan (@LindseyBoylan) December 13, 2020 In another tweet, Boylan said she has no interest in speaking with journalists. She said her worst fear is that sexual harassment continues, and her second is having to talk about it and relieve it.“I am about validating the experience of countless women and making sure abuse stops,” she wrote.Boylan worked for the Cuomo administration from March 2015 to October 2018. She served first as executive vice president of Empire State Development and then as a special adviser to Cuomo for economic development.Cuomo’s press secretary Caitlin Girouard says there is "simply no truth to these claims.”Boylan did not provide details of the alleged harassment and didn’t immediately respond to messages from The Associated Press. 1302
