LOS ANGELES (AP) — A rare summer thunderstorm brought lighting that sparked several small blazes in Northern California early Sunday and stoked a huge forest fire that has forced hundreds of people from their homes north of Los Angeles. More than 4,500 buildings remained threatened by the wildfire, which was burning toward thick, dry brush in the Angeles National Forest. In Northern California, a thunderstorm moving rapidly from the Pacific Ocean onshore brought thunder, lightning and strong winds that knocked out power across the San Francisco Bay Area. Unsettling weather also caused a fire-induced tornado at an out-of-control forest fire that broke out north of Lake Tahoe on Saturday afternoon. 713

Lockdown has been been the way of life for many months at the Central Union Mission. No residents are allowed in or out, as part of an effort to keep COVID-19 out of this homeless shelter.“That was a difficult choice for us, but our goal from the beginning was to provide a safe place for homeless men to be fed, sheltered and be COVID-free,” said Joseph Mettimano, president of the Central Union Mission. “And so not allowing new folks come in, that was heartbreaking.”It was heartbreaking but effective.Since the start of the pandemic, there have been no cases of COVID-19 at the shelter. It’s a feat they weren’t sure would be possible at the start of the pandemic.“We started working on this process very early with the same countermeasures that everybody else was doing: handwashing, sanitizing hand railings, all those types of things,” Mettimano said. That also included regular health screenings for residents and staff, all of which combined to create a coronavirus-free zone.“I think we've gotten close. The guys that are here in the facility over the last six months and encouraging one another to try to follow the protocols that the mission has [in] place,” said Jonathan Moncado, a resident at the shelter. While the shelter lockdown hasn’t been ideal for him and the other 100 or so men there, Moncado said there is a sense the sacrifice has been worth it.“We just are thankful to the staff that they've kept us safe for all these months,” he said. “There hasn't been one confirmed case or any deaths.”The same can’t be said everywhere.Across the country, people who are homeless haven’t completely avoided COVID-19.The most recent numbers show 400 of the 12,000 people who are homeless in Seattle tested positive for the virus, with at least two deaths. COVID-19 has infected 1,300 of the 66,000 people who are homeless in Los Angeles, with more than 30 deaths. Meanwhile, in Phoenix, about 500 of the estimated 7,400 tested positive, with at least 9 deaths.Yet, the numbers available may not be the most accurate. COVID-19 testing for those who are homeless isn’t widespread. In addition, the recorded deaths from coronavirus often don’t list someone’s housing situation, all of which could be skewing the numbers.Back at the Central Union Mission, there’s an even more pressing situation: a change in the weather.“With winter coming, we want to make sure that we can do all we can to help folks to prevent them from getting hypothermia,” Mettimano said. “So, we're going to have some difficult decisions coming our way.”It is a potential for tough decisions that may need to be made in the face of a devastating pandemic and unforgiving mother nature. 2675

LOS ANGELES (KGTV) -- According to multiple media reports and NBA insiders, one of the summer's most coveted free agents Kawhi Leonard will be joining the Los Angeles Clippers.Friday's news ends days of KawhiWatch, a media and fan frenzy that included a helicopter chase and people camping outside hotels hoping to persuade the 2019 NBA Finals MVP to stay with the Toronto Raptors, or join either the Los Angeles Lakers or Clippers.Leonard's camp has not released an official announcement nor made any comments on the reports as of Friday night. The former San Diego State University star will be joining a young and exciting Clippers team that won two games against the top-seeded Golden State Warriors in the first round of this year's Western Conference playoffs. LOS ANGELES (KGTV) -- "The world is ready to heal," said Ashley Judd when asked about "Me Too" and the Time's Up movement and her date to the Oscars, Actress Mira Sorvino. Both women have accused Harvey Weinstein of harassment and both are part of the Time's Up movement. In October 2017, The New York Times published Judd's and other women's accounts of sexual harassment by the Hollywood producer. In the interview, Judd recalled an incident where Weinstein "sent her up to his room, where he appeared in a bathrobe and asked if he could give her a massage..."Sorvino's accounts of Weinstein's behavior are similar. The actress told The New Yorker that she rejected Weinstein's advances, but found it difficult to land roles after doing so. On the Red Carpet Sunday night, both women were asked what the Time's Up movement meant to them. Both said they're fighting for all women to have equality and respect in all industries - not just in Hollywood. Their appearance on the red carpet together is a symbol that speaks nearly as loud as the all black dress code of the Golden Globe Awards in January.   1147

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Wells Fargo has agreed to pay billion to settle criminal and civil investigations into a long-running practice whereby company employees opened millions of unauthorized bank accounts in order to meet unrealistic sales goals.Since the fake-accounts scandal came to light in 2016, Wells has paid out billions in fines to state and federal regulators, reshuffled its board of directors and seen two CEOs and other top-level executives leave the company. The billion payment announced Friday includes a 0 million civil payment to the Securities and Exchange Commission, which will distribute those funds to investors who were impacted by Wells' behavior.Since 2016, the bank has battled a laundry list of legal troubles, including creating fake accounts, forcing customers into car insurance purchases they didn't need, overcharging customers, and charging them mortgage fees they didn't deserve. 928
