The cremated remains of notorious cult leader Charles Manson were scattered on a California hillside following a Christian funeral on Saturday, nearly four months after his death.The burial came one week after Manson's grandson, Jason Freeman, won the right to his grandfather's body after a court battle that began shortly after Manson's death on November 19.The family "acted like ninjas" to keep the funeral in Porterville, California, from gaining attention, Freeman said.About 20 people attended, he said, describing them as his grandfather's best friends from before and during Manson's 46-year incarceration.Among them was Sandra Good, a member of the original "Manson Family." Good was not part of the grisly two day killing spree that terrorized the nation in 1968. Freeman invited both to the funeral. Neither showed up.During the court fight, both Freeman and a probate attorney talked about Manson's body being kept "on ice" by the Kern County Coroner. However, Freeman told CNN that the funeral home told him they "had a mess on our hands," and that there was "gross neglect to the corpse." Freeman said it was clear to him that his grandfather had not been properly stored.But Stephen Wells, a spokesman for the Kern County Sheriff's department, said that Manson's body "wasn't treated any differently than any other body" being stored by the coroner's office. Wells said it was kept refrigerated, and that "after four months it would have the standard decomposition."Freeman is a devout Christian, and had a local pastor from Porterville lead the service.Also at the service was a documentary camera crew working with Freeman on a film about his father -- Charles Manson Jr., who committed suicide when Jason was a boy.While the fight over Manson's remains is over, the court battle for his estate -- including personal items as well as music rights -- is still being fought in court. The Democratic-controlled House has approved a wide-ranging defense policy bill, even as President Donald Trump renewed his threat to veto the bill unless lawmakers clamp down on social media companies he claims were biased against him during the election. The Clark County coroner ruled that Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul's death in June was due to natural causes. Paul, whose legal name was Vincent Paul Abbott, died of dilated cardiomyopathy, a condition where the heart becomes enlarged and cannot pump blood effectively. Severe coronary artery disease was identified as a significant condition to the cause of death. Paul died at his Las Vegas residence on June 22. The elections board in Florida's Miami-Dade County has collected a set of mysterious ballots in the Opa-locka mail facility after Democrats raised concern about the uncounted votes.The uncounted ballots have emerged as one of many battles over the fiercely contested Florida elections that moved this weekend into a recount phase.Suzy Trutie, a spokesperson for the county's supervisor of elections, told CNN there were 266 ballots in the shipment and that the votes will not be counted. Florida law requires all ballots sent by mail to arrive at the election facility by 7 p.m. on Election Day, and these ballots did not meet that standard, Trutie said.The US Postal Service said in a statement on Friday that it was operating in "close coordination and partnerships with election officials at the local, county and state levels." The Florida recount deadline passed on Thursday afternoon with at least one of the state's largest counties unable to complete the task.Florida law stipulates that any races with margins outside 0.25% can now be certified by law. Races that are still within that range will head to a manual recount of overvotes and undervotes to be completed by Sunday at noon.Election boards in every Florida county have been using voting machines to recount ballots this week, with some of the larger counties working all day and night. There are currently three statewide races -- the contests between Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson and Republican Gov. Rick Scott for Senate; Democratic Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum and Republican former Rep. Ron DeSantis for governor; Republican Matt Caldwell and Democrat Nikki Fried for agriculture commissioner -- that were within the .5% margin required for a statewide machine recount.The fiery race between DeSantis and Gillum is the most likely to come to a formal end. The Republican led by roughly 33,000 votes after the initial count. Gillum, who conceded the race on election night before taking back his concession a few days later, tweeted on Wednesday, "I believe that we win," hinting that he believes the gap could narrow. But there is no evidence yet that he made up enough ground to extend the fight.The two other contests are significantly closer and appear likely to head to a hand recount.
