URUMQI, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) - China will upgrade an annual trade fair held in Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, to a leading trade platform in the heart of Eurasia and to boost cross-border economic cooperation in a region vulnerable to unrest and violence.The China Urumqi Foreign Economic Relations and Trade Fair, which closed here Sunday, will be re-launched as China-Eurasia Expo beginning next year, government organizers said, and it will become an important exchange platform for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which includes China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan."The upgrading is overall and comprehensive," said China's Minister of Commerce Chen Deming, who heads the China-Eurasia Expo Organizing Committee.He said the Expo will serve as China's platform to reach out to the entire Asia and Europe rather than just central and south Asia.People visit the 19th Urumqi Trade Fair in Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Sept. 4, 2010. BEIJING, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Russian President Dmitry Medvedev Monday signed a series of political and commercial deals on his second state visit to China, a sign of closer strategic ties between the two world powers.Medvedev held talks with his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao Monday in Beijing. They celebrated the completion of a long-awaited China-Russia oil pipeline, the largest bilateral project between the two countries.The 999-km pipeline runs from Angarsk in Russia to Daqing in northeast China. It is part of a bilateral loan-for-oil deal that was reached in 2009. Under it, China makes a 25-billion-U.S.-dollar long-term loan to Russia while Russia supplies China with 300 million tonnes of oil through pipelines from 2011 until 2030."The smooth completion of the pipeline project is a model for the two countries' mutually beneficial win-win cooperation and a milestone for China-Russia energy cooperation," said Hu at the completion ceremony.The two countries also signed 15 deals on cooperation covering coal, gas supply, energy efficiency, renewable energy, nuclear power, power grids and banking.Medvedev arrived in northeast China's port city of Dalian Sunday to start his state visit. There, he met with veteran Chinese and Russian soldiers who participated in China's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1937-1945), part of WWII, underscoring the "deep bonds" between the Russian and Chinese peoples.

KUNMING, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- The building of a railway between southwest China's Yunnan Province and Laos will kick off on Oct. 28, according to its Chinese contractor.The 530-km railway, expected to be completed in 2015, will link Mohan port in Dai Autonomous Prefecture of Xishuangbanna and Vientiane, the capital of Laos, said Li Zhanqun, board chairman of the Yunnan Xiaoxiang Pan-Asia Investment Co., Ltd."We would like to use more workers from Laos to help boost the employment market along the railway," Li said.The railway is part of the Trans-Asian railway network, which will cover 114,000 km and travel through 28 countries throughout the region.In 2009, China ratified an agreement on the Trans-Asian Railway Network, which was initiated by the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).The agreement came into effect in June 2009.
