(KGTV) - Income taxes on military pension is pushing a lot of people out of California. A new study proves that taking those taxes away would actually help both veterans and the state. For the people who served their country, it's tough to make it in California. "My wife just retired," said Matthew Schillingburg. "I just retired and so we're all on disposable income right now."He served in the army for more than 20 years. When his income is taxed by the state it can be hard to get by. "The thing that’s really holding us here, this community right here in San Diego that we grew up and love so much, our kids and our grandkids here," Schillingburg added.He joins 1.8 million military veterans who live in California. Many of them are looking to leave the state for more affordable areas where their pension won't take a hit. Assembly Bill 2394 is trying to change that. "If we can eliminate that, that helps us have more disposable income and we can consume more in the community that we love so much," said Schillingburg.According to a new study, if veterans were exempt from state taxes there would be big changes by the year 2025. More than 12,000 jobs would be added to the economy, along with 0 million in total personal income, million in state and local taxes and billion in total business sales. The bill is currently in committee. If it does pass, it could go into effect as soon as January 2019.  1484

Jacobs is the granddaughter of Qualcomm co-founder Irwin Jacobs. She was a policy advisor to Hillary Clinton during her bid for the presidency in 2016.Jacobs supports Medicare for all, gun reform, and repealing tax cuts and jobs act.Georgette Gomez serves as a San Diego councilwoman serving the 9th District. (KGTV) - Chula Vista Mayor Mary Salas outlined the city’s recent accomplishments and layed out its future goals in her fourth State of the City Address Tuesday night. Salas went over the growth and achievements San Diego County's second-largest city has seen over the last year, including neighborhood revitalization and the approval of the Bayfront Project. During the address, Salas spoke about events that drew large crowds over the last year.Salas said the city’s Fourth of July celebration in 2017 drew a crowd of 15,000 while more than 35,000 people attended HarborFest on the Bayfront.RELATED: Port of San Diego, Chula Vista moves forward with bayfront developmentThe Mayor also spoke about growth happening in Third Avenue Village citing the Lemon Fest, Taste of Third and Village Summer Nights in June. A popular topic throughout California in recent years is infrastructure. (KGTV) -- A new report is digging into the top jobs with the best career opportunities. According to job site Glassdoor, tax managers have the strongest career opportunity rating. Several other financial roles also scored high on the list, including audit manager and accounting manager. Glassdoor says the accounting field has plenty of strong career opportunities coupled with competitive salaries and numerous open jobs.
