SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A San Diego professor is one of 55 people to make up California’s Electoral College for the 2020 election. Peter Bolland is the Chair of the Philosophy and Humanities Department at Southwestern College. He’s been at the school for 30 years and during that time taught Ammar Campa-Najjar, who is the person who selected him to become an elector.California gets 55 electors because of the 53 congressional districts and two senators. Electors are chosen by the party’s nominee who won the popular vote. Campa-Najjar got the most votes for Congress’ 50th District primary election in 2020, making him the person to choose the elector. Sure let's do it,'" said Bolland.Bolland said he’ll be flying to Sacramento on Dec. 14 to cast his vote. So Biden won California, I’ll be casting my vote for Biden regardless of what my political views are," said Bolland.He added that he’s honored to be chosen in such a historic role, but acknowledges the flaws in the Electoral College system."Politically, I’ve had my concerns and questions about the Electoral College. It’s fundamentally anti-democratic," he said.The Electoral College was created by our founding fathers in 1787. They wanted to find a balance between giving too much power to the people with a simple popular vote, without giving all of the power to Congress. The Electoral College was their solution.Bolland points out that it makes some votes useless.“Last night, Joe Biden won by like 60 something percent and Trump lost by 30 something percent. But that’s a lot of people in California who voted for Trump and with the Electoral College they get erased,” he said, adding that there are Biden votes that get erased in right-leaning states as well. 2095

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego psychiatrist no longer has a license after authorities say he was intoxicated while practicing.According to the Medical Board of California, Marco Antonio Chavez’s license was suspended following an investigation.The investigation began after authorities say a patient reported that Chavez sent him a box of medication in 2017 that contained an empty vodka bottle.During one of several office visits, an investigator said Chavez appeared to be intoxicated.Documents show that Chavez told the investigator that his mother gave him a “Mexican home remedy to stop his drinking” which consisted of vodka and cloves. At a hearing, Chaves said he had two of the drinks that morning.During the visit, the investigator told Chavez he believed he was “so intoxicated that he could not practice medicine” and told two patients in the waiting room to go home.A test conducted by a San Diego Police officer shows that Chavez had a blood alcohol level of .216. Authorities say Chavez’s license was suspended on May 7. 1044

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A YouTube video of a community college police officer who drew his gun on a San Diego man carrying a camera Wednesday is going viral.The video shows the Mesa College police officer getting out of his car and asking Chris, the man with two cameras, what he was filming.Chris, who did not want to provide his last name, refused to put down the GoPro camera. Within seconds, the officer took his weapon out of the holster. The officer did not put his gun back in the holster until a second officer arrived.Chris is the founder of California Citizens Watch, a group that audits government entities. He told 10News reporter Allison Ash he was not trying to provoke the officer into pulling his gun.Watch the confrontation: 10News spoke with former El Cajon police officer Kevin LaChapelle who said he believes Chris was definitely out for a confrontation.
