(KGTV) — President Trump stood by his demands for border wall funding, following a meeting with Democratic leadership Friday, ensuring more debate into the weekend over .6 billion for his border wall to end the government shutdown.In a press conference, the president discussed his meeting, calling it productive and saying he believed progress with Democrats had been made. However, House Speaker told reporters outside the White House that, "We cannot resolve this until we open up government, and we made that very clear to the president."Here are six takeaways from President Trump's press conference:On the government shutdown...During his meeting with Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer, President Trump confirmed he said the government shutdown could last for months or even a year or longer."I don't think it will, but I am prepared," Trump told reporters. "I hope it doesn't go on even a few more days. It really could open very quickly."He added later that the government wouldn't reopen until the issue of border security and wall is solved. Trump added his demand for funding remained at .6 billion for the border wall.To federal workers affected by the shutdown...When asked of his response to federal workers that are not a part of the Department of Homeland Security, President Trump said the shutdown was necessary to "do what's right" and not address border security in pieces."We want to do what's right and we want to do it all at one time. We don't want to take it in pieces," Trump told reporters.The president went on to say he believed many of those workers affected would agree with closing the government over border funding."I really believe that these people ... agree with what we're doing," Trump said. "I think a lot of the people ... are wanting that to happen too. I really believe a lot of them want to see border security and they're willing to give it up."San Diego's border...President Trump said in "San Diego, and other areas of California, we just finished brand new walls ... and they wanted them badly." Trump added that California's leadership, specifically the governor position, "complains" and but wall construction was held anyway.He went on to say that the "brand new wall in San Diego" is "working really well."Continuing claims Mexico will pay for the wall...President Trump continued his claims that Mexico would pay for a border wall, saying the money saved in a renegotiated trade agreement between the U.S., Mexico, and Canada would net more money than the border wall would cost."We will be making billions and billions of dollars a year ... and that is paying for the wall many, many times over," Trump said. "What we save on [the USMCA] just with Mexico will pay for the wall many times over just in the period of a year, two years, three years. I view that as absolutely Mexico is paying for the wall."Bypassing Congress for the wall...When asked about granting himself emergency powers to construct the wall, President Trump said he had already considered it, but want to negotiate with lawmakers first."Yes, I have. And I can do it if I want," Trump told a reporter. "We can call a national emergency. I haven't done it. I may do it. I may do it. We can call a national emergency and build it very quickly. It's another way of doing it."On the border wall...President Trump said a team of people would work through the weekend to address border security, "the look" of the wall, and ports of entry. "I think they're going to be really successful. I found the Democrats really want to do something," Trump told reporters.Trump went on to deny previous assertions that the wall be made of concrete and touted possible steel construction, saying, "If I build a wall and the wall is made out of steel instead of concrete, I think people will like that." A 10-year-old Great Pyrenees found himself in a tight situation after he somehow found his way into a culvert near his home. Cheatham County Animal Control posted photos from Wednesday's rescue on its Facebook page. Jack’s owners noticed he was missing after he failed to eat his morning meal. They heard whining coming from a 15-inch-wide culvert near their house and called 911. "He was in so much pain, I guess he just couldn't go anymore. He just couldn't hardly catch his breath," Pete Greco, Jack's owner, said. Fire officials arrived and began cooling him off from the end of the culvert. Greco, along with firefighters, animal control, and construction workers from across the street, began to dig and cut through the culvert. Crews had to slice the culvert at the edge of the driveway without tearing up the concrete. “Without the ability to use a control pole (nothing to grab onto as he was faced away from us) we ended up having to remove a little bit more of the culvert top, and we crawled inside the culvert and hauled his keister out," animal control wrote in the Facebook post. “You could literally see the relief in his eyes, you could also hear the sighs of relief behind us from the family eagerly awaiting to see their little boy safe and sound.” "I don't see how he would have gotten in there," Greco said. "He probably smelled something." Jack was removed on a gurney and taken to a local animal clinic to be checked out. On Thursday, Jack was resting at home, and Greco said he plans to put up something that will prevent an animal from entering the culvert again. "I mean, he was stuck. He would have died right there. I would have tore that concrete up if I had to," Greco said. "I mean, these dogs are kind of like my kids, you know? They're family."  1871

(WXYZ) — A dramatic deer rescue caught on video shows officers in Michigan save a buck trapped in a net.Officers Thomas Goodrose and Justin Wells came face-to-face with a 10-point buck trapped in the net of a soccer goal at Bingham Farms Elementary on Monday morning.Noticing how panicked the deer was, the quick-thinking officers used a tool from their vehicle to help control the deer's legs while cutting netting that had started to close around the animal's neck. “Once he had it secure, we came up slow. Held the horn and heard it breathe and relax,” said Officer Thomas Goodrose with Franklin police. “It felt really good. You don’t come across this too much but it was really cool.”In the video, you can see the deer realize the netting is no longer attached, and run back into the wilderness. (KGTV) — City officials are investigating an incident caught on video between an African American man and a white La Mesa Police officer that led to the officer being placed on leave.The video, posted to Facebook this week, shows the incident that occurred at the Grossmont Trolley Station on Fletcher Parkway. The city said the footage appears to "indicate that a LMPD officer detained an African American male, and in the process, the LMPD officer administered physical contact."The video footage starts after an altercation had already begun between Amaurie Johnson and the police officer. It then shows the escalation and Johnson being placed in handcuffs. Johnson is told that he's being charged with assaulting an officer and led to a police vehicle.RELATED: La Mesa officer in arrest video placed on leave, pending investigation“For that situation to escalate the way it did, and for the cop, you know, to stand firm in his beliefs that I should be detained or taken in with no prior evidence or reasoning, I think that should be seen by the people,” Johnson said in an interview with 10News.He said he was waiting for his friend at the trolley stop, near a building where that friend lives.Johnson said an officer started questioning him and he gave him the information that he wanted.The nearly six-minute video shows a heated verbal exchange between Johnson and the officer. It also shows the officer forcefully push Johnson into a sitting position onto a nearby bench.Johnson told 10News at no point did he resist or assault anyone."I feel as though people that look like me, um, feel the same way I do and we're tired of it. We're tired of having to deal with stuff like that,” he said.Johnson said he was cited with assaulting an officer and resisting arrest.The La Mesa Police Department did not respond to our request for information about the citations. The department also didn’t respond to our request for the officer’s body camera video or release the name of the officer involved in the incident.On Thursday, the La Mesa Police Department issued a statement, saying they are "aware of a video circulating on social media depicting an interaction between a police officer and a citizen at the Grossmont Trolley Station yesterday. We immediately began a review of the incident to find out what happened. The La Mesa Police Department takes all allegations of misconduct very seriously and asks that any member of the public with information or video regarding this incident contact us at (619) 667-1400."The city says it has started a special investigation into the incident and that the officer involved has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. 3147

“They’re at less than 50% of their ideal body weight. They are incredibly compromised and many times, it’s an end of life scenario where they’ve been told, there’s nothing else that can be done for them,” said Jennifer PetersonPeterson is describing the state her patients are often in by the time she’s starts treating those dying from an eating disorder. She’s a registered nurse with Angel Med Flight, an air ambulance company.Her team makes frequent trips to drop off patients at the Denver Health Acute Center for Eating Disorders.“They’re the first and only medical inpatient eating disorder program in the United States,” she said.“The Acute program at Denver Health takes care of the most medically compromised eating disorder patients from certainly the United States,” said Dr. Philip Mehler, the director and founder of Acute.He says the center turned to Angel Med when a patient died after being transported by a different air ambulance provider.“She died and shouldn’t have died because the issue that happened was preventable if they had followed the guidelines that were set up,” said Dr. Mehler.During COVID-19, numbers have shot up both for the number of patients visiting Acute, and those being transported by Angel Med.“Our admissions went up, I think, because the residential treatment centers were hesitant to take these people, they don’t have the infection control things in place that we can do on our unit,” said Mehler.“The six months prior to the COVID pandemic we were roughly transporting three patients per month. And since March that has increased to about 8 patients,” said Peterson.Isolation can cause anxiety and depression. Both be contributing factors to eating disorders.The National Eating Disorders Association Helpline says their chat queries increased by more than 80 percent between April 2019 and April 2020.Angel Med attributes their increases to patients not wanting to travel to Denver commercially during the pandemic with compromised health.“Many people are nervous about flying commercially, concerned about seeking care at a hospital, or concerned about getting treatment for a specific issue because of the potential for potentially contracting COVID,” said Peterson.For Peterson, being able to work with Acute is a special opportunity.“These cases always are heartbreaking, every single time. And knowing that we may help save their life if we get them to Acute, it may be treatment that they’ve never had before or an option that they’ve never had before. So it’s a pretty incredible thing to say that you’ve actually saved someone’s life,” said Peterson. 2616
