A modest income can go a long way in Cumberland, Maryland, the metropolitan area with the nation’s most affordable houses. With election day looming, the candidates vying to replace Duncan Hunter in East County's 50th Congressional District say they are leaving no stone uncovered.The race is pitting Republican Darrell Issa against Democrat Ammar Campa-Najjar. The two want to fill the seat Hunter vacated in January, when he resigned after pleading guilty to one felony campaign fraud charge. Campa-Najjar narrowly lost to a then-indicted Hunter in 2018 and is running again in 2020."The whole district, we're just going to be traveling across town, meeting people at local diners and saying 'hey, I'm here for you,'" Campa-Najjar said Monday. Issa represented coastal North County's 49th for nearly two decades. In 2018, he decided not to run for re-election as that district shifted blue. This year, however, Issa launched a campaign for the seat in the 50th after Hunter resigned. The district comprises much of East County, and stretches into south Riverside County. It is the only district in San Diego County in which Republicans outnumber Democrats. Issa said his campaign made 10,000 calls Sunday and knocked on more than 1,500 doors. He said if he is elected to Congress, he'd use his experience to help move the country forward. "Many of my Republican and Democratic friends are coming back after two years of very little progress and a lot of hostility," he said. "I'm hoping to get past that with people I have a working relationship with and get some things done."After months of polling showing the two neck-and-neck, an Oct. 27 ABC-10 Union-Tribune poll showed Issa with an 11 point lead over Campa-Najjar. But Norris says personal loans have a lower interest rate than most credit cards. "It could be the difference between an average credit card APR of 16 percent to a personal loan which can start as low as 6 percent," Norris says.What's different about a personal loan is that there is no collateral, unlike a home or car loan.   "You can compare that to a car loan if you were to stop making payments, it's possible that your car could be repossessed," Norris says.    With a personal loan, it's only backed by your guarantee. Buffalo Wild Wings thinks they're a natural fit.The sports bar chain, which has about 1,200 restaurants in all 50 states, said it is exploring the possibility of offering sports wagering now that the Supreme Court has opened the door for states to legalize sports betting."As the largest sports bar in America, we believe Buffalo Wild Wings is uniquely positioned to leverage sports gaming to enhance the restaurant experience for our guests," a company spokesperson said Thursday. "We are actively exploring opportunities, including potential partners, as we evaluate the next steps for our brand."Three states -- New Jersey, Delaware and Louisiana -- have legalized sports gambling since the Supreme Court decision in May. Before the ruling, Nevada was the only state where it was legal to bet on sports.Many other states are considering legislation that will allow for sports betting in the hopes of cashing in on what could be a multibillion-dollar industry."We're still waiting for state legislatures and regulators to hash out licensing rules, so it's unclear how they'll [Buffalo Wild Wings] have opportunity to participate," said John Decree, head of North America equity for Union Gaming, a boutique investment bank that focuses on the gaming industry.Current there are 43 states with some type of legal casino. Tim Polley said. “Don’t we all need some joy in our lives?”The answer for Grant County’s deputies is "yes."“We make a legit traffic stop,” Conrad said. “In lieu of writing a citation, we hand out a gift card to our local businesses.”Several drivers who got a Sheriff's Santa surprise were both grateful and thankful, a nice reminder to use a turn signal.The project does more than just promote good driving, it also drives business to local shops and restaurants who could use a customer boost during the coronavirus pandemic.“Typically, we deal with the more negative aspects of humanity, so when we can do anything that's positive, it's a blessing to us,” Conrad said. “We swore an oath to the Constitution.
