Tucked away in the small town of Eaton, Colorado, there’s a time machine capsule dedicated to one type of technology, and one man who has dedicated 35 years of his life to this collection. “My museum is called Lee Maxwell’s Old and Unusual Collection,” said 89-year-old Lee Maxwell. “I took up this hobby about 35 years ago, and it’s turned into an obsession. My collection is unusual that’s for sure.”Maxwell collects washing machines. He is the owner of the only washing machine museum in the country. “Why? Well a lot of people ask me why,” Maxwell said. “Since I’m not a golfer or fisherman, and I don’t like to bungee jump, I couldn’t afford corvettes, so I chose washing machines.”Maxwell said he owns a washing machine from every state, some dating back to the 1800s. “Over 1,500 machines,” Maxwell said. “The number is kind of a secret though, because I told my wife, Barbara, I would stop at a thousand. Keep that under your breath. 1,500 machines, 1,500 stories.” For 35 years, Maxwell traveled the country collecting washing machines to bring back to his home of 17 acres. “I spent a lot of time here the last 35 years,” Maxwell said, while standing in his warehouse full of washing machines. “I have to find a good home for it. There are some folks around the US that are interested in it. I want to find a home close to northern Colorado. I’m eighty-nine years old now, I would like to go eleven more years to really see it blossom.” Maxwell said he has a few organizations interested, but he did not want to give any more details. He hopes it will continue to grow as the largest washing machine museum in the country. “There are three attributes you have to have to be a washing machine collector,” Maxwell said. “You have to have space, you have to be insane, and you have to have a saint for a wife. And I got all three.” 1851
Tucker Carlson portrayed himself as the victim of a "mob" on Monday night. And he said Fox News has his back."We will never bow to the mob. Ever. No matter what," he said.At the exact same time, on MSNBC, the progressive group Media Matters for America shared even more examples of offensive remarks made by Carlson on a shock jock radio show. The "Bubba the Love Sponge Show" audio clips are from 2006 to 2011. Carlson was heard making many misogynistic and crude comments. Before long a "fire Tucker" hashtag was trending on Twitter.Fox News declined to comment on the controversy. The network has been battling Media Matters in various ways for many years. Some of Carlson's comments on the radio show date back to a time when he worked at MSNBC. Thursday marks Pi Day, otherwise known as 3.14, which marks the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter. While the average citizen can easily remember the 3.14 ratio, the exact ratio practically has an infinite amount of numbers. If you want a more precise pi ratio, it is 3.141592653589793238462643383279. How well do you think you could remember just those 30 digits? One man was able to remember the ratio of pi up to 70,000 decimal places. Rajveer Meena accomplished the feat on March 21, 2015 while wearing a blindfold. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Meena's feat took nearly 10 hours to accomplish. According to Five-Thirty-Eight, there are now more than 22 trillion know digits to pi. According to Five-Thirty-Eight, it took a Dell computer nearly 105 days of computation to come up with the large number of digits. This is compared to just 2,000 known digits of pi in the mid-20th century. So how does one remember so many digits? Savant Daniel Tammet, who is able to remember pi's calculation to more than 20,000 digits, told David Letterman, "What I am doing is visualizing numbers." he said. "When you look at a number, you just see the numbers four and three. When I am looking at numbers, I am seeing different colors and shapes and textures. It is called 'synesthesia.' My brain is working in such a way I am looking and also experiencing color. It is two senses combined. "Having a more exact number of pi helps scientists at NASA conduct more precise experiments and calculations. Having more exact figures helps lend precision to projects such as landing rovers on Mars, sending spacecraft into deep space or tracking the movement of asteroids.
