Some bars will close for two weeks starting Tuesday under a new decision by Governor Andy Beshear's office.Starting Tuesday at 5 p.m., freestanding bars will close and restaurants will be limited to 25% capacity indoors. Some of the top scientists and doctors in the country are calling on leaders to do something different immediately to improve the state of the COVID-19 pandemic.The American Association of Medical Colleges released a road map to reset the country's approach to the crisis. It includes evidence-based actions to improve outcomes and overall health.Improvements include things the country still hasn't got a grip on, like critical supply and drug shortages, increasing testing, an setting national standards for face coverings.“There is literally no risk to wearing a mask for the average person. You may be uncomfortable, you may be hot, you may break out, but it is nowhere as uncomfortable as it would be for having me or one of my colleagues intubate you and put you on a ventilator for an extended period of time,” said Dr. Atul Grover, Executive Director at the AAMC Research and Action Institute.A recent study by Duke of various face masks found the N95 respirator with no valve is the most effective. But these should be reserved for health care workers.A disposable surgical mask made from a plastic material called polypropylene was the next best option.Third was a mask with two layers of cotton and one layer of synthetic material.Masks made from cotton fabric alone, as well as knit t-shirts, performed about the same.“So, you are also protecting yourself,” said Grover. “In fact, if we can get up to 80, 90% of us wearing masks in a community, you could start to reduce that transmission by 2 or 3% at a pretty steady rate.”The AAMC roadmap to reset also mentions an immediate need for something we haven't seen yet, a vaccine distribution plan.“But somebody needs to sit down and say within those high-risk groups of comorbidities, whether that’s diabetes, obesity, hypertension, heart failure, who should be vaccinated first? Is it by age? Is it by condition? And even among first responders, do I start with police doctors, paramedics?”The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has not released a vaccine distribution plan. SOLANA BEACH, Calif. (KGTV)- As San Diego county's COVID-19 cases continue to climb, restaurant owners hope outdoor dining isn't banned next. Los Angeles County shut down outdoor dining last Wednesday for a minimum of three weeks due to a surge in infection rates.Piero Tarantino owns Parioli Italian Bistro on Highway 101 in Solana Beach.He's down to just two employees, with the restaurant open only four days a week."We have a problem retaining employees cause we have to cut their hours since we don't have a lot of business, and we have to close a few days cause there are not enough sales to even pay one employee," said Tarantino.He says outdoor dining was going well in the summer, but it's a struggle now that cooler weather is here even when using heaters. "It's not comfortable cause you have heat coming from one side, but then the rest of your body is cold," said Tarantino.Restaurants across the country are trying to continue with outdoor dining even as the weather gets cold. Some owners are getting creative using everything from igloos, to individual pods, to tents and canopies.Dr. Anne Rimoin is an epidemiologist at UCLA. She said eating outside is only safe if you are truly outside."The issue is it needs to be completely open, wide open, ventilation if you have a roof, if you have sides, that's not outdoors, outdoors means in the open air," said Dr. Rimoin. Rimoin said everyone needs to do their part to bring down the infection rates."Right now, we're at the most dangerous point of this pandemic that we've been in, so far," said Dr. Rimoin.San Diego County Supervisor said right now there is no talk of banning outdoor dining locally."I have not seen evidence to suggest there's significant spread, at least from outdoors settings," said Supervisor Fletcher. Seven people, including four children, have been found dead in a rural property in Western Australia, in what's believed to be the country's worst mass shooting in more than two decades.Officers were called to a residential property in Osmington, around 170 miles (270 kilometers) south of state capital Perth, in the early hours of Friday morning, where the seven bodies were discovered, said Western Australia Police Commissioner Chris Dawson.Police arrived at the property following a call from "'male person' connected to the property" shortly after 5:00 a.m. local time (5 p.m. Thursday ET), national broadcaster ABC reported.Five bodies were found inside the house, and the other two outside, close to the property. Dawson described the incident as a "tragedy" and "horrific incident."Police were treating the incident as a murder-suicide, according to ABC."It appears that gunshot wounds are there, but I don't want to go further than that... two firearms have been located," Commissioner Dawson said, according to the ABC.The ABC is reporting that it is Australia's worst mass-shooting since 1996's Port Arthur massacre, in which a lone gunman killed 35 people with a military-style semiautomatic rifle.The massacre, in Australia's southern island state of Tasmania, was the last straw for Australians, following a decade of gun massacres which had left more than 100 people dead.Just 12 days after the Port Arthur shooting, the government of Prime Minister John Howard announced nationwide gun law reform, by far the most popular initiative of his first year as Australian leader.In Friday's incident, police statement said there were "no concerns about wider public safety."Police say they are unable to share any other details and are currently looking for next of kin and friends to notify.  1816
