SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Police are searching for a group of males targeting local Apple stores in the North County.Police said two Apple locations, one in Carlsbad and the other in Escondido, have been targeted in a series of grab and runs. During the incidents, police say the males generally enter in hoodies or jackets and grab multiple Apple devices on display tables before quickly exiting.Outside, a getaway vehicle is usually waiting, police added.MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhoodThe thefts occurred at the Carlsbad location, 1923 Calle Barcelona in the Forum Carlsbad, on May 16, June 18, July 11, and July 13, and the Escondido store, at 272 E. Via Rancho Parkway at Westfield North County, on July 9.The suspects are described as African-American males in their early 20s, wearing hoodie sweatshirts or jackets with the hood portion tied closely to their heads. There may also be a female suspect involved, police said.Since January 2018, the incidents have resulted in more than 0,000 of losses. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Quiet neighborhood walks have turned disturbing for a growing number of women in Rancho Bernardo.Along Paseo Lucido, feet from a park, Lauren was walking her dog one early evening two weeks ago. She walked past the passenger side of an older, white, 2-door Toyota."The front windows were down and the seat was back ... looked over inside the car and saw he was exposing himself and touching himself," said Lauren.'He' was a large man in his 30s with short dark hair."He smiled when he saw me looking. I immediately looked away. Just very anxious and scared," said Lauren.Lauren took off for a neighbor's house. When she returned minutes later, the car was gone. About a week later - around 6:30 a.m. last Thursday - Robbie was blocks away on Avenida Venusto when a similar car, driven by a man with a similar description, pulled ahead of her and parked in a red zone."Kind of slouched back. He has his pants down, and he's actively touching himself," said Robbie.And again, the stranger met a woman's glance before driving off."And he looked up at me with a big smile on his face," said Robbie. These women aren't alone, as Lauren found out when she posted her incident on the Nextdoor app for her area."There are at least seven other women who have encountered this person in the last few months," said Lauren.In many cases, the women report the car pulling ahead and stopping. "I think he's targeting women who are walking by themselves or slowly walking their dogs by themselves," said Lauren.In one of the other reports, a woman says the man was driving a gray Honda. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Mostra Coffee, the San Diego-based coffee company that recently won the award for Best Roaster in the U.S., has opened its second brick-and-mortar store.The move is a risk, as many small businesses had to close or scale back during the coronavirus pandemic."Being an entrepreneur, it's just something that you pretty much fight for, and you are you're kind of programmed to just take a leap off the cliff even though you don't know what's happening," said Jelynn Malone, one of Mostra's co-owners.The new location is in 4S Ranch, an area of town that asked Mostra to move in. A petition in 2019 calling for the new location got more than 1,500 signatures."It was something that the community rallied for, and we felt that the community deserved it," said Malone. "So we just piecemeal this thing and slowly worked our way through to the point where we can actually open."But Malone admits it was scary taking that kind of risk during the Pandemic."Being a small business with over 20 employees, including my own family, it was very troubling and scary," she said.The company went through layoffs in the spring, and work on the new location slowed to a crawl. To keep the business going, Mostra built a website and app to allow for curbside pick-up and online ordering.Now that the new 4S Ranch location is open, Malone and her co-owners say the struggle has made their success more enjoyable."I'm so happy we made this decision, and I'm so happy with how the shop turned out. According to police, a 30-year-old man was crossing the street on the 1300 block of University when he was hit. Following the crash, the sedan fled the scene. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Parents who want options for their child’s education can explore the possibilities this fall through the San Diego Unified School District’s School Choice program. School Choice gives students the chance to enroll in magnet programs or schools outside their neighborhood boundaries. Parents are responsible for transportation if their children attend a school through School Choice outside their community. Parents can apply for the program online or in person. In addition to specialty programs available to students through the choice application window, San Diego Unified also has free and fee-based, full and half-day enrollment seats available in the district’s Pre-K and Headstart programs. SDUSD’s Parent Welcome Center offers help for families with preschool through high school enrollment options. It provides parents with free one-on-one enrollment assistance year-round and is located at San Diego Unified District headquarters. The center is open to families by appointment or on a walk-in basis. The enrollment window opened October 7 and closes November 20. Each year, more than 10,000 area students apply for the choice program to attend one of the more than 180 schools in San Diego Unified.
