(KGTV) -- A project that would create thousands of homes in San Diego County is heading to the ballot on March 3. If approved, Measure B, also known as Newland Sierra, would affirm the San Diego County Board of Supervisors’ unanimous approval of the changes to the general plan. The project includes 2,135 homes, 60 percent of which would be affordable for working families, according to Kenneth Moore, a spokesperson for the Yes on B campaign. The project would be built just off I-15 next to the cities of Escondido, San Marcos, and Vista. Newland Sierra also preserves more than 60 percent of the property as permanent open space. It would take another six to seven years to construct the entire project. Moore says construction on the infrastructure could begin as early as late 2021 or 2022. New homes would then start being sold and under construction by 2024. If the measure doesn’t get approved, however, Moore says that’s it for Newland Sierra. “Somebody could then move forward with the development of the current general plan zoning that allows a massive commercial development and estate homes," Moore says. Still, those in opposition say the project would create wildfire dangers, noise pollution, and traffic congestion. Much of the opposition is also being led by the neighboring Golden Door resort. A new study out by Michigan State University found that it's actually very common for pet owners and their dogs to take on each other’s personalities. Pet owner Annie Ernst feels she and her dog, Harper, are one in the same. "I always want to be in the know about everything and be involved and go up to people and say hi, and she is the same way," Ernst says. Ernst says her and Harper were compatible from the start. Yosemite National Park is investigating about 170 reports of gastrointestinal illnesses and has confirmed two cases of norovirus, officials said Thursday.The National Park Service began investigating after visitors and employees started reporting illnesses this month. Most cases occurred in early January.“We’ve had very few the last week or so,” park spokesman Scott Gediman said. “We’re hoping that we’re over the hump.”Norovirus is highly contagious and can be spread through direct contact with an infected person, touching a contaminated surface or eating or drinking contaminated food. It can cause vomiting and diarrhea and its symptoms are especially severe for elderly people, young children and people with health issues.Most of those who reported becoming sick in Yosemite had symptoms consistent with norovirus, although some might have had food poisoning or the flu, Gediman said.The origin of the outbreak was unclear. Park officials also haven’t determined whether people who became ill contracted something inside or outside of the park.Most of the people who got sick had spent time in Yosemite Valley, where park offices, visitor services, snack shops, hotels and restaurants are clustered.The park hasn’t tested food or facilities in the park for traces of norovirus, but Gediman said the park and its concession operators have been working to clean and disinfect public buildings, including the famous Ahwahnee Hotel.Aramark, which operates the hotel, received numerous complaints from visitors about poor food quality, shuttle and other services since it began managing Yosemite’s concessions four years ago.The company is working with the park to prevent future illnesses, Gediman said.“They’ve been a great partner,” he said. 1761
