CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Police are investigating after a deadly crash in the South Bay early Sunday morning. According to police, the single-car crash happened on the 100 block of Telegraph Canyon Road just after 3:45 a.m. Chula Vista Police say a man was driving along the road when he veered to the left and struck two trees in the center median, causing major damage to the vehicle. The driver was taken to the hospital with major injuries where he later died. (KGTV) - Federal and local authorities, in addition to hazmat crews, were called out to the scene of a drug raid in Chula Vista after agents found fentanyl and THC extraction on the property. The raid happened at a home on 2nd Avenue Wednesday afternoon. DEA officials confirmed the search warrant was part of an ongoing investigation. DEA agents arrested one man during their search, and he is suspected of mixing fentanyl with other illegal drugs, according to a DEA spokesperson. Agents did not identify the man or disclose the amount of drugs found. (KGTV) - The scared whimpers of a little dog which had been missing from his Eastlake home for days led to a courageous rescue by a Chula Vista firefighter Thursday morning.The 30-pound dog, Sammy, disappeared from his home in Eastlake Trails Monday, according to Chula Vista Fire Department officials.Early Thursday morning, Sammy’s family noticed sounds coming from a drainage pipe near their home on Secret Canyon Place.Family members called the fire department which responded, along with Chula Vista Public Works crews and Chula Vista Police, to find the dog in an 18-inch drainage pipe underground.Firefighter Jed Burt went down a manhole and crawled through the drainage pipe, which was roughly the size of his helmet, to reach Sammy.When the dog refused to come out on his own, Burt pushed the dog through the pipe to another manhole nearby.Video posted on the IAFF Local 2180 Chula Vista Firefighters union Instagram account shows the moment Sammy reached the surface.Sammy was reunited with his family and suffered no apparent injuries.10News is working to bring you developments in this story. 1137
CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - The City of Chula Vista’s controversial Drag Queen Story Time is moving to a different branch to accommodate the number of registrants, city officials said Tuesday. The event, which was supposed to take place at the Otay Ranch library, will now be held at the Civic Center library on Sept. 10 at 4 p.m. “The Chula Vista Public Library welcomes everyone, and programming at the City’s three libraries includes and reflects the diverse communities the libraries serve,” city officials said in a news release. “Hosting drag queens to read and relate with children promotes reading and literacy and sends a positive message of acceptance and tolerance.” A protest against the event was held Thursday, as opponents said they were concerned it would sexually influence children.
