SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Tourists and locals alike can enjoy one of San Diego's most famous landmarks Saturday for free in honor of National Public Lands Day.The National Park Service is offering free entry at Cabrillo National Monument, and other U.S. landmarks, as part of its "fee-free" days throughout the year. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Video captured a man smashing display cases inside a Mission Valley mall jewelry store Wednesday evening.The cell phone video given to 10News shows a suspect using whatever he can find to smash a jewelry case inside Zales.The incident started around 2:15 p.m. when a witness saw the man wearing a Padres jersey walking around suspiciously.The witness first saw the suspect take a hat from a kiosk before walking into Champs Sports, taking off his jersey and stealing a Nike jacket.The man then began to untie a pair of shoes on a mannequin in an attempt to steal them. Once he saw people watching him, the suspect left the shoes and ran to the jewelry store.He grabbed a pipe and tried to break open a jewelry case. After the unsuccessful attempt, he then grabbed a mirror and tried to do the same thing.Unsuccessful again, the suspect grabbed a chair and continued to smash the cases until he was able to stuff some necklaces into his pocket.By the time the man broke the display cases, police had arrived on scene, taking the suspect out in handcuffs. 1081

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- A group of ten college girls rode their bikes from Seattle to San Diego to fight sex trafficking. The group is comprised of women from Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Alabama.Beginning in Seattle and ending in San Diego, these first-time riders biked down the West Coast, meeting with communities and local leaders along the way to spark conversations and raise money for the long-term, rehabilitative care for children rescued from sex traffickers.This is the third year for Pedal the Pacific and this year they nearly doubled their financial goal. They ended up raising over 250 thousand dollars. The organization tells 10News, "The team just received a 0,000 donation from the Harry W. Bass Jr Foundation. The foundation says they were appalled by Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged crimes, but they found a positive way to make a difference with their donation to Pedal the Pacific."All of the money raised will be donated to The Refuge Ranch, the largest long-term, live-in rehabilitation facility for child survivors of sex trafficking in the US. 1071

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — U.S. Coast Guard officials Wednesday offloaded thousands of pounds of cocaine in San Diego after it was seized in international waters.The narcotics seizures occurred in four separate incidents off the coasts of Mexico, Central, and South America between July and early October.Alert (WMEC-630): Two cases seizing about 4,000 pounds of cocaine;Robert Ward (WPC-1130): One case seizing about 1,500 pounds of cocaine; andSeneca (WMEC-906): One case seizing about 1,400 pounds of cocaine.The narcotics have a street value of more than million, according to the Coast Guard."I am extremely proud of this crew for doing their part to keep these dangerous drugs off the streets," said Cmdr. Tyson Scofield, Alert’s commanding officer. "The Eastern Pacific Ocean is a challenging environment, especially on a ship that is in her 50th year of service, yet this crew persevered to disrupt the illegal flow of narcotics that fuels instability in Central and South America."The Coast Guard has increased its presence in the eastern Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Basic as part of its Western Hemisphere Strategy.
