BEIJING, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Fu Ying said Tuesday Premier Wen Jiabao's Europe trip aims to promote the two sides' comprehensive strategic relationship.Fu made the remarks at a press briefing at which she and Vice Foreign Minister Zhai Jun briefed the press about Wen's upcoming visit to Europe.Wen will pay an official visit to Greece, Belgium, Italy and Turkey from Oct. 2 to 9 at the invitations of Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou, Belgian Prime Minister Yves Leterme, Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.Wen will attend the eighth Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) and the 13th China-European Union (EU) summit from Oct. 4 to 6 as guest of European Council President Herman Van Rompuy, Belgian Prime Minister Yves Leterme and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso.The Greece visit is the first by a Chinese premier in 24 years. Wen will also deliver a speech in the Greek parliament on China-Greece relations and China-EU relations."Coping with the financial crisis will be an important topic for talks between Wen and Greek leaders. We have a positive attitude about the measures taken by the European Union and the International Monetary Fund. We have noticed that the Greek government has adopted measures which have been effective. We hope Greece will recover soon from the difficulties," Fu said.Speaking highly of the role Belgium has played in promoting China-EU relations during its rotating presidency, Fu said China-EU relations will be on the top agenda of Wen's meeting with Belgian leaders.Wen will hold talks with Yves Leterme and meet King Albert II. The two countries will also sign deals on nuclear energy.During Wen's visit to Italy, he will have talks with Silvio Berlusconi and meet President of the Italian Senate Renato Schifani, and President of the Chamber of Deputies Gianfranco Fini. BEIJING, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislature held an inquiry Friday into the government's report on grain safety in an effort to improve the legislative supervisory role.Entrusted by the State Council, or China's Cabinet, senior officials from nine government agencies, such as the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), attended the inquiry to answer questions raised by lawmakers at a bimonthly session of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the country's top legislature.Such inquiries are believed to be a concrete and important step for the top legislature to exercise and improve supervision of the government.Zhang Ping, minister in charge of China's top economic planning body, the NDRC, issued the report on the country's grain safety on Thursday and lawmakers began to deliberate and make inquiries on the report on Friday.This is the second inquiry held by the top legislature this year. TOKYO, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Officials from the Chinese Embassy in Japan have visited the Chinese fishermen illegally detained by the Japanese authorities last week in the East China Sea.The Chinese government and people care very much about their living and security conditions in captivity, officials from the embassy in Tokyo and the consulate general in Fukuoka told the crew members.Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and other senior diplomats have for several times lodged solemn representations with the Japanese side and protested the detention of the Chinese fishermen, they said.Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo summoned Japanese ambassador Uichiro Niwa early Sunday morning and demanded the immediate release of the Chinese fishermen and their boat. Dai urged Japan to avoid any misjudgment of the situation and to make a "wise political resolution."Dai was the highest-ranking Chinese official to make a public response after the fishing boat and its crew were seized.The Chinese embassy officials learned in detail the crew members' physical and mental conditions, bought food, fresh water and medicines for them, and contacted their families.The officials told the crew members that the Chinese government was sparing no effort in urging the Japanese side to release them, and asked them to keep good health and calmness, support the Chinese government's work and have confidence that the government can properly handle the issue as quickly as possible.The Chinese Embassy in Tokyo is continuing to make representations with the Japanese authorities, demanding the immediate and unconditional release of the crew members and their boat.

BEIJING, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Public Security Minster Meng Jianzhu on Sunday urged police forces from Beijing and six provincial-level regions around the capital to share information and work closely to beef up security work.Meng made the remarks at a work conference on police cooperation in regions around Beijing.Police chiefs of Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shanxi, Liaoning, Shandong and Inner Mongolia signed a framework agreement for the cooperation.Liu Qi, chief of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), also called for joint and efficient efforts of the police in the regions around Beijing to ensure the regions' security and stability.
