NANPING, Fujian, March 25 (Xinhua) -- Four of the five injured school children in a stabbing attack in southeast China's Fujian Province Tuesday, which left eight dead, became conscious Thursday, local authorities said.The four were in a relatively stable condition but still faced uncertainties and were all under intensive care, said Liu Bin, an official with the health bureau of Nanping City, where the bloodshed occurred.Zheng Minsheng, a former community doctor in the city, stabbed 13 children at the entrance of a primary school Tuesday morning in Nanping when crowds of students were arriving, leaving eight dead and five injured.One senior doctor and several chest surgeons arrived in Nanping from Beijing Wednesday to treat the children.The Procuratorate of Yanping District in Nanping City approved the arrest of Zheng Wednesday afternoon, on charges of intentional homicide, said Ye Xianjin, director of the Yanping District procuratorate office Wednesday.Zheng committed the attacks as he felt frustrated after breaking up with his girlfriend last year. He also said he found life meaningless, according to Xu Jingping, deputy head of the city's public security bureau.

BOAO, Hainan, April 10 (Xinhua) -- World politicians and entrepreneurs attending the annual Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Saturday called to prevent trade protectionism from posing a real threat to the fragile global economic recovery.The worst financial crisis since 1930s plunged the world economy into downturn last year, the first time since the Second World War. But many economies are recovering at unexpectedly quicker rates as massive fiscal stimulus has paid off.The world economy was in a recovery, but the global demand was still worryingly weak, Yi Xiaozhun, China's deputy commerce minister, said at the BFA meeting in Boao in south China's island province of Hainan.Many signs also showed a rise of trade protectionism as more and more countries took protectionist measures, Yi said.Former Chinese Vice Premier Zeng Peiyan said the once strong support for international cooperation appeared to be eroding as the financial crisis subsides, which is "even more worrying."Some nations were verbally against protectionism, but they in fact imposed anti-dumping or anti-subsidy measures and made a fuss about exchange rate problems, Zeng wrote in the BFA official publication.Up to 250 anti-dumping complaints were raised last year, 20 percent more than a year earlier, and 41 anti-subsidies complaints, up 193 percent year-on-year, according to the World Trade Organization (WTO).China has become the biggest victim of trade protectionism, according to the U.K.-based Center for Economic Policy Research. BEIJING, May 13 -- The proportion of China's GDP that goes toward wages has been shrinking for 22 consecutive years, a senior trade union official said on Wednesday.Zhang Jianguo, chief of the collective contracts department with the All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU), also warned that low pay, long working hours and poor working conditions for millions of workers are triggering conflicts and mass incidents, which pose a grave challenge to social stability.The proportion of the country's GDP that makes up wages and salaries peaked at 56.5 percent in 1983 and dropped to 36.7 percent in 2005, Zhang said."The proportion has not changed too much since then. In contrast, the proportion of returns on capital in GDP had risen by 20 percent during the period from 1978 to 2005," Zhang said in an interview posted on the ACFTU's website.The annual average wages of workers in urban areas had increased from 12,422 yuan (,819) in 2002 to 29,229 yuan in 2008, statistics from the National Bureau of Statistics showed.However, the gap between the rich and poor has been widening in the country and is also growing between urban and rural areas, different provinces and cities, as well as in different industries, he said.About one-quarter of respondents in the latest ACFTU survey said their incomes have not increased in the past five years, while 75.2 percent of them said that current income distribution is not fair.
