SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (KGTV) - The man accused of brutally beating a Salt Lake City teen and his father will not face a hate crime charge, the Salt Lake Tribune reported Monday. Salt Lake City Police said Alan Covington, 50, walked into Lopez Tires the morning of Nov. 27 and said “I’m going to kill someone.” Witnesses also heard Covington say he wanted to “kill a Mexican person”, KTVX reported.Covington waved a square metal pipe at the men inside the business, who escaped onto the front sidewalk, police said. 19-year-old Luis Lopez was struck in the head, according to Lopez’ family.The right side of Lopez' face was shattered and a titanium plate was inserted, his sister reported. SAN DIEGO — Governor's Gavin Newsom's order on Monday shutting down indoor operations at San Diego County gyms, hair salons, and malls set off a mad scramble. On Wednesday, owner Frank Koll and a few of his staffers moved equipment out onto Iowa Street. It was the only way to survive - because Koll exhausted all of his Paycheck Protection Program funds that got him through the first shutdown."Closed again is something physically, financially and mentally something I can't do, and I won't do, so I will be like a chameleon and adapt to anything that this governor throws my way," Koll said. The gym moved the equipment on the sidewalk and also has an interior outdoor space to utilize. By Wednesday just after 12 p.m., a half-dozen people were working out on the sidewalk, including Felicia Brown, a regular who drives all the way from Spring Valley. SAN CARLOS, Calif. (KGTV) -- Police are searching for a suspect caught on video stealing a bike from a San Carlos garage in late October. According to police, the theft happened on the 6600 block of Bell Bluff Avenue on October 25 around 2 p.m. Police say the suspect backed his truck into the victim’s garage before using bolt cutters to cut a lock and steal a M80 mountain bike. According to police, the theft wasn’t the first time mountain bikes were stolen from the same home. On October 13 and 15, the victim had two other mountain bikes stolen from the garage. The total value of the three bikes is ,000, police say. At this time, it’s unknown if the same suspect is responsible for all three thefts. The suspect is described as a white male in his 30s or 40s with short, blonde hair and a full beard.
