SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Traffic was blocked Wednesday near the San Diego Superior Court Central Courthouse due to a hazmat investigation. The San Diego Sheriff’s Department confirmed the substance was found in the building at 1100 Union St. about 5 p.m. A court employee said the substance was a white powder found on the 10th floor.Preliminary information from the scene indicates the situation was linked to a letter inside the courthouse, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue. By 6:30 p.m., crews determined the powder was harmless. 537

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A homeowner woke up in her Del Cerro home and realized a burglar had been in her room, stealing from her.Just off College Avenue, Kathleen Wavra was sleeping in last Monday morning. Feeling sick, she had taken medication with a sleep aid. Wavra, who is deaf in one ear, was sleeping on her "good ear."She says something jolted her out of sleep around 9:30 a.m.MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhood"Startled and stood up and looked immediately at my dresser and saw the missing jewelry boxes," said Wavra.All three jewelry boxes were gone. A panicked Wavra quickly found this: Her front door open with the locks and wood splinters on the ground. The wooden door is about 25 years old.Police believe the intruder either kicked or shoved his way in. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- Across the country, there have been reports of racial discrimination against the Asian Pacific Islander community (API), including here in San Diego County.Erin Chew said she was wrapping up her grocery shopping trip in San Marcos when a man made eye contact with her and began speaking loudly about Asians."He just looked at me and started talking extremely loud to his partner or wife Looking at me saying Chinese people eat all this dirty stuff, eating bats and everything," Chew explained. She said the man also said, "I blame all the Chinese people for bringing this virus into this country."The incidents are not just happening out in public."My organization, SDS U'S Filipinx and Filipinx-American organization Andres Bonifacio Samahan was recently Zoombombed by a group of unknown individuals slandering us," said SDSU student Cristal Ami.Video from the Zoom meeting shows a group of unknown people yelling things like, "All you Asians have coronavirus!"In San Leandro, hate-filled notes were left on several homes, one read, "You have until May 23, Saturday at 10:30 AM to leave this country.
