BEIJING, June 1 (Xinhua) -- China has promising growth prospects and should not be blamed for world imbalances, says Danny Quah, a renowned British economist."Emergency financing that was placed in the Chinese economy to counter the downturn from the 2008 global financial crisis was the right thing...The imbalances is a global problem, not a China problem," said Quah, a professor at the London School of Economics and Political Science.China did the right thing in infusing its economy with fiscal stimulus, Quah said in a recent interview with Xinhua. He also declined to describe the ballooning real estate prices as a bubble, pointing out "the strong fundamentals" of China's economy. He said the expansion of China's housing construction will be proved useful eventually, given the fact that "China is still engaging in the task of moving hundreds of millions of people from rural areas to urban China to continue to power its manufacturing and industrial progress.""So I would not describe it as a collapse of real estate bubble, we can look forward to a rationalization of housing and real estate prices," Quah said. "The improvement and expansion of housing stock will play an important role in continuing to move the Chinese economy forward.""I think Chinese fundamentals will continue to be strong. And a little bit of high inflation, as long as it doesn't break out into some kind of runaway high inflation, is probably no bad thing," he said. "We will get it under control again as the Chinese government did previously."On allegations that China deliberately keeps its currency RMB weak to obtain unfair advantages in trade with countries like the United States, Quah said people who draw such a false conclusion are misguided."The United States is running a trade deficit not just against China. It is running a trade deficit against almost 100 other countries," he said. "China is not unique in how it is exporting more to the United States than it's importing."The U.S. government was beginning to run a large trade deficit long before China's trade surpluses started grow, he added."If you take the ratio of China's bilateral trade surplus against the U.S. as a fraction of the U.S.' overall bilateral trade deficit against all of the countries, it has remained constant over the last 15, 20 years," Quah said.

KHARTOUM, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Sudanese official said Saturday that the China-Arab Cooperation Forum constitutes an important platform to upgrade the economic, commercial and social ties between China and the Arab world."The China-Arab Cooperation Forum is important as it constitutes one of the major mechanisms to enhance and strengthen the economic and commercial relations between the Arab states and China," Abdul-Baqui Jailani, Sudanese state minister for humanitarian affairs, told Xinhua, one week before a ministerial conference of the China-Arab Cooperation Forum scheduled for May 13, in Tianjin, China.Jailani regarded the Sino-Sudanese cooperation as a model for the Arab countries to follow suit, saying that "Chinese experience in Sudan deserves to be studied thoroughly and it deserves to be repeated elsewhere in any other African or Arab country"."I think if we take for example oil industry, exploration and production services, the Chinese have proved to be at the highest level of development in this industry in particular, and I think we can develop this in other similar countries where there are reserves of petroleum," he added. He went on to say that "China is working with full transparency; they can build confidence with others without any hindrances or obstacles."The Sudanese official further called upon the Arab and African countries as well to give the Chinese a chance to invest and cooperate, adding that "such cooperation will result in mutual benefit for both China and others nations."He affirmed that China's contribution to establishment of development projects in Sudan would help in achieving lasting stability and peace in the country, saying that "for example, if we concentrate on development, on infrastructure, we will come to peace in Darfur. China is providing good services in this respect. ""The same thing could be said about the south. We need to concentrate on developing the south and China stands with us in this respect. It is a fruitful cooperation with great benefits," he said.Jailani, meanwhile, commended the strong ties between Khartoum and Beijing, saying that "this relation is deeply-rooted in history and I think what has been achieved now between the two countries is paving the way for a lasting peace in Sudan."The fourth Ministerial Meeting of China-Arab Cooperation Forum will be held on May 13-14 in Tianjin, China. The meeting, with the theme of deepening comprehensive cooperation and realizing common development, would give impetus to the China-Arab friendship. The China-Arab Cooperation Forum was established in 2004.

NINGBO, Zhejiang, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Internet of Things (IOT) -- which refers to digital networks of physical objects -- has huge potentials but many challenges lie ahead, said scientists, entrepreneurs and government officials on Sunday.IOT has become a catchword for those at the Information and Communication Technology and Urban Development Forum held in east China's coastal Ningbo this weekend on the sidelines of the Shanghai Expo; from ministers to mayors, scientists to entrepreneurs, keynote speakers to audiences.China should accelerate the development of the IOT industry so as to create a new platform for economic growth, said Li Yizhong, Minister of Industry and Information Technology in his opening speech to the forum. The first theme forum of the Shanghai World Expo is closed in Ningbo, a coastal city of east China's Zhejiang Province, May 16, 2010. The two-day forum focusing on information and communication technologies (ICT) and urban development attracted over 600 participants including renowned scholars and entrepreneurs.Minister Li's words were echoed by Zhao Hongzhu, communist party chief of Zhejiang Province, who called for more efforts to develop such key concepts as IOT, which, in his words, "present a brilliant future for urban life."In what's called Internet of Things, networks of real-world objects are linked to the Internet and interact through web services. As more objects are embedded with sensors, giving them the ability to communicate, and networked together, the possibilities are enormous, potentially resulting in new business models, improved business processes and reduced costs and risks, according to a March 2010 report by McKinsey & Co..

GENEVA, May 25 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese government is firmly committed to strengthening its friendly cooperation with Africa and supporting the continent in achieving peace and development, a senior Chinese diplomat said here on Tuesday."China is the largest developing country and Africa is home to most developing countries. China-Africa cooperation is an important part of the South-South cooperation," said He Yafei, China's ambassador to the United Nations Office in Geneva.Addressing a forum on Africa's peace and development, He said China, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, has been always supporting and participating in peacekeeping operations in Africa.Since 1990, China has participated in 12 UN peacekeeping operations in Africa, providing more than 10,000 personnel. Now there are more than 1,600 military staff and civilian police from China in Africa, he said.China supports the conflict-resolution efforts in Africa, participating actively in mediating activities in Darfur, Sudan and other parts of the continent, he added. In addition, China has actively joined the international anti- pirates task force patrolling the waters off Somalia, and made important contribution on keeping the security of the Gulf of Aden and Somali waters. On economic and social fronts, China, for over 50 years, has provided assistance to Africa to the best of its capability, according to the ambassador.China has made 7.8 billion U.S. dollars of direct investments in Africa by 2008. By the end of 2009, China had built more than 900 infrastructure and public welfare projects, sent 17,000 medical personnel to 47 African countries, where they had treated 200 million patients, provided over 20,000 government scholarships. In order to further strengthen the friendly cooperation between China and Africa, to jointly meet the challenge of economic globalization and to promote common development, the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation was established by China and friendly African countries in 2000, the ambassador said.Since its establishment, the Forum has held one summit and four ministerial conferences, with Chinese leaders announcing a lot of measures to strengthen cooperation with Africa and support African development."This year marks the 10th anniversary of Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. We believe that this Forum will play an even bigger role in facilitating cooperation and relationship between China and Africa," He said.
