SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — An arson investigation expert says the probe into possible arson behind the USS Bonhomme Richard fire could take more than a year to complete.Wednesday multiple sources with close ties to NCIS told ABC 10News that a sailor is being investigated for arson in the Navy ship fire at Naval Base San Diego last month.Timothy Wilhelm is a senior fire investigator with Robson Forensic and has extensive experience with arson cases. He’s not part of the Navy ship investigation but says it could take agents more than a year to complete their findings. “There's so many delicate systems in that ship. Smoke poured into the sky over the area. It took crews four days to extinguish the fire.The damage was so bad, that it remains unclear if the USS Bonhomme Richard will sail again.“If the fire burned for four days where it originated, chances are [that] most of that evidence is going to be consumed. It's going to be gone,” said Wilhelm.Wilhelm said investigators may be considering arson because of other clues. They may have some videotapes,” he added.On Wednesday, a spokesperson for Navy would not confirm what ABC10 News' sources reported about the possibility of arson, but did state, “the investigations are ongoing and there is nothing new to announce on their current status or findings."On Thursday, a Navy spokesperson sent an updated statement that read, “The Navy will not comment on an ongoing investigation to protect the integrity of the investigative process and all those involved. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A sign advertising a block party at the home of a registered sex offender is causing concern in Rancho Bernardo.“We would like to invite you and your kids to a neighborhood get together” read the sign, which was posted outside a home on Bernardo Oaks Drive in the Seven Oaks retirement neighborhood this week.“I always keep an eye on that house because I know there’s a registered sex offender that lives there,” said Susan Sutherland.Sutherland told 10News she looked up her community on the Megan’s Law website four years ago and found a listing for a neighbor who had had been convicted of lewd acts on a child under 14, according to Sutherland“I come from a background of abuse. I can’t live with myself if I allow a child to get hurt. I can’t live with that,” Sutherland said.The sign was posted by the contractor who recently renovated the home, which is owned by the man's mother. 10News reached out to Elor Energy, which said it had no prior knowledge of the man's past. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Aaron Juarez sat stone-faced as a public defender tried to convince a South Bay judge he's not a flight risk; especially not to Mexico. The deputy district attorney says Juarez, 20, is a gang member recently sentenced to probation on a firearms conviction. The judge ordered him held without bail for violating his probation, but he's wanted in Tijuana for allegedly murdering his stepmom. He declined to talk with the media Monday afternoon. "It really hurts that they can support someone like that. Even my sister's husband was here supporting the murder of my sister and that really hurts me," said Gonzalez. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A woman's trip to Mission Bay ended with her, and her car, soaked.The woman, who identified herself as Candy, said she was next to her car on a boat ramp preparing to unload her kayak for a day of fishing and roaming around Mission Bay. Suddenly, her 2002 Audi convertible started rolling as she was unloading gear.Candy jumped into the car and road it into the bay as she tried to get her emergency brake to engage."It just wouldn't. It just kept on going," Candy told 10News. "I was standing straight up in it as it was going down ... quite a scene, I'm sure."The car started sinking into the bay with Candy still inside, before she jumped out to swim back to shore. Her lunch and kayak floated to the other side of the bay as her car became completely submerged, she told 10News."I'm going to have plenty of fish now," she joked. "It's not a big deal, things happen."Two tow trucks were able to fish Candy's vehicle out of the bay and San Diego Lifeguards retrieved her car and kayak, in which she had left her purse and lunch.Candy said she had just purchased the car in November.San Diego Lifeguards reminded locals to exercise caution while using boat ramps. 1216
