CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Warmer ocean temperatures are being blamed after 10 to 15 people were stung by stingrays along the beach in Coronado Tuesday afternoon. According to lifeguards, 10 to 15 people were stung by the creatures after 4 p.m. Lifeguards say ocean temperatures, which reached the mid 60s Tuesday, were to blame for the increase in stingray activity. Lifeguards added that, when ocean waters warm up, it’s common to see an increase in stingray activity, but it’s unusual to see so many stings in a single day. Crews placed purple flags along the shores of Coronado Tuesday to warn of the increase, but say tourists may not know about the dangers the rays pose. The flags can also be used to warn about other creatures, such as jellyfish in the water. The California round ray is known to feed in the shallows off the California coast. Officials say the stingrays lay partially buried in the sand while hunting, making them difficult to spot for unsuspecting beachgoers. The stingray’s barb is covered in venom and mucus that causes severe pain if it breaks the skin. To avoid stepping on the rays, lifeguards recommend shuffling your feet. If you do happen to be stung, below is a list of what you should do to treat the sting: 1. Stop the bleeding.2. Go to the nearest lifeguard.3. Soak foot in hot water to deactivate venom.4. (KGTV) - A group of armed suspects robbed a Sprint store on University Avenue in City Heights Monday night.San Diego Police say three suspects entered the store around 7:45 p.m. Witnesses told investigators that they were forced to the back of the store as the suspects raided a storage area.The suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of tablets, phones and cash, said police.A car matching the description of the suspect vehicle was later spotted at the Mobil gas station on Camino Del Rio North in Mission Gorge. On Wednesday, hotel guests and the public will be able to use the hotel's new underground parking structure, which features 729 spots. For the next two years, guests will enter the hotel from the north side, as the main entrance is redesigned. The temporary entrance can be accessed from R.H. Dana Pl. The project will cost 0 million, a figure that's double the original estimate."To ensure that the Hotel Del is staying relevant with the times, but also that it's here for another 130 years," said Nick OrRico, the resort manager. OrRico says they've been working diligently to enhance the guest experience while construction is underway. After the popular restaurant Sun Deck closed for construction, the hotel created an alternative eatery on the beach with a food truck. "We are still looking for ways to build unique experiences for guests, so they still want to come over here and experience our beautiful beach," said OrRico.
