BEIJING, April 28 (Xinhua) -- China on Saturday dismissed Japan's claim of UN backing in its extension of continental shelf, saying that Japan's claim was baseless.
"At that time, some people suggested that we resort to a zero interest rate policy, as some developed countries did. We had discussions. Though we could not judge whether we would fall into the 'liquidity trap' described by John Maynard Keynes, we did know it would be a very dangerous decision," central bank governor Zhou Xiaochuan said.
According to statistics from the provincial transportation department, traffic services on 24 major trunk highways, 36 county-level highways and 176 rural roads have been interrupted as of 6 a. m. Sunday.
The disaster relief effort is being carried out by governments of all levels in the province.
The statement said the commission based its expectations on traffic analyses and its experience in previous years.
