A brawl broke out during a sentencing Wednesday afternoon of a former daycare owner accused of reckless homicide in the death of a 7-week-old baby in her care.37-year-old Claudette Mitchell was being sentenced for charges related to the death of a 2-month-old child that died while in Mitchell's care last August at "WHO'S LUVIN YOU" daycare. Mitchell ran the daycare out of her home on Milwaukee's northside. A criminal complaint says Mitchell told police she put the baby down for a nap and when she checked on her about an hour later she was unresponsive and had scratches and blood on her face. Court documents show the baby suffered multiple fractures to her skull and bruising all over her body. Forensic investigators believe the baby died of blunt force trauma to the head.  Mitchell received a sentence of 42 months, and upon release, 48 months of supervision. Following the sentencing, an altercation broke out between 50 members of Mitchell's and the victim's families and friends according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office.Additional deputies and district attorney investigators were called to the room to restore order. Authorities say additional security had been in place prior to the altercation but Mitchell's loved ones did not comply with deputies’ orders to remain in the courtroom while the victim’s family was being escorted out. 1407

A cold front dropping down from Canada will be giving hundreds of thousands of people weather whiplash this week, with 30-to-50 degree 24-hour drops forecasted between Monday and Tuesday for sections of the Rocky Mountain west and western plains.Excessive heat warnings are in effect from southern Oregon to southern Arizona on Monday, according to the National Weather Service. A heartbreaking social media post by the brother of James Eric Davis Jr., the man who police say shot his parents to death inside of his Central Michigan University dorm room Friday is asking for compassion and support for his younger brother.“To the media and opinionated people... Please don’t make a villain of my brother... that is NOT who he is... and despite the circumstances, he also lost a mother and father... And I LOVE him. Consider that!,” wrote Russell Matthew Davis on his Facebook page.“Never thought I’d have to post this type of post... but unfortunately the news is true. My mom and dad both rest from their life of labor and stress in a very tragic event,” he wrote.Davis Jr. has been charged with two counts of murder and a weapons charge in the shootings of his father, Eric Davis Sr., and mother, Diva Davis.Davis Jr.’s parents had come to the university Friday to pick up their son from the hospital and take him back to their hometown in Illinois for Spring Break.  Their son had acted so strangely the night before, that University police suspected he was on drugs and admitted him to a hospital in Mt. A Boynton Beach, Florida woman accused of shooting her husband five times over HOA complaints will not be charged with attempted murder.State prosecutors declined to file charges against Lisa Barreca Thursday morning. Police arrested Barreca last month, saying she shot her husband and caused wounds to his head, both his arms, his right leg and back.Barreca planned to use the stand your ground defense.A spokesperson for the Palm Beach County State Attorney's Office said the agency did not complete their investigation within the 30-day mandatory filing period. The SAO is able to file charges in the future, if they choose to do so.The Boynton Beach Police Department completed their investigation into the case, according to Public Information Officer Stephanie Slater.Barreca was ordered to be released on her own recognizance following a Thursday morning court hearing and the case was closed in court records. Barreca, who lives on Aspen Leaf Drive, was talking about HOA complaints with her husband Eric Barreca in their kitchen when he told police that the situation started to escalate.  The police report said that Lisa Barreca then went into the garage, retrieved her gun and shot him. Lisa Barreca was hospitalized and then was taken to the Palm Beach County Jail. A hole was gouged in the deck of Russia's only aircraft carrier, the Admiral Kuznetsov, Tuesday when a crane fell on it while the vessel was undergoing repairs in the northern city of Murmansk, according to Russian state media.The accident took place after a power supply disruption caused the pumps on the floating dry dock, which was holding the aircraft carrier, to break down, causing the structure to sink.The dock, known as PD-50, is one of the world's largest floating dry docks and the biggest in Russia, measuring 330 meters long (1,082 feet) and weighing more than 80,000 tons.Following the disruption, PD-50 quickly became submerged, causing two cranes to fall onto the deck of the Russian vessel, leaving a hole measuring four meters by five meters (13 feet by 16.4 feet), state media Sputnik said.The aircraft carrier had been exiting the dock when the incident occurred, state media TASS said, and the vessel is sheltering at the 35th Ship Repair Plant."For now, the circumstances look like this: when the Admiral Kuznetsov was lowered, a power surge occurred from the shore, pumps shut down, and the dock sank," Zvezdochka Shipyard spokesman Yevgeny Gladyshev told TASS.Russian officials told state media the damage would not delay repairs on the Admiral Kuznetsov, which are due to be completed by 2021.The 58,000-ton carrier went in for repairs and refit in May, more than a year after it returned from a mission off Syria that saw it spewing thick black smoke while at sea and also losing two of its 15 aircraft to crashes.Carl Schuster, a former director of operations at the US Pacific Command's Joint Intelligence Center, told CNN the Russian navy was already in a poor state of repair and the loss of the dock wouldn't help."The loss of one (floating dock) may not be that serious except we don't know the condition of the others ...
