Li expects the summit to focus on four areas: experiences of BRICS cooperation; developing BRICS by strengthening coordination; cooperation in the areas of trade, investment, finance, infrastructure and people-to-people exchange; and expanded connection between the markets of BRICS and South America.
"The two countries mutually support each other to safeguard sovereignty and the interests of developing countries," the ministry said, adding "a series of political and cultural activities are planned in Venezuela to continue to bolster the ties of friendship and cooperation between Caracas and Beijing."
The two sides agreed to maintain and promote the S&ED mechanism so as to further strengthen mutual trust and cooperation between the two countries, it added.
However, as President Xi noted, Chinese and Latin Americans share a natural affection, despite the long distance from each other.
"China will continue to follow the policy of building amicable partnerships with its neighbors and work with other countries to jointly safeguard stability and prosperity of the Asia-Pacific region," said Li.
