SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Police have identified a man who was fatally shot in the Midway District this week, prompting a standoff with the suspect of the murder in North Park.San Diego Police received a report of the shooting just before 11 a.m. Sunday in the rear parking lot of the 24 Hour Fitness at 3675 Midway Drive. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Police are searching for a suspect who fled the scene of a deadly shooting near the Linda Vista Recreation Center on Sunday.San Diego Police say that officers were called to the area near 7000 Levant Street in Linda Vista just after 11 a.m. over reports of gunfire in the area. When officers arrived, they found one man who had been shot in the upper body. Officer provided first aid to the man until San Diego Fire-Rescue personnel arrived. The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The victim has been identified but his identity was not released. He is described as a 27-year-old Hispanic man from San Diego.While officers were at the hospital, a second man arrived with an apparent gunshot wound, police said. He said that he had also been injured outside of the same recreation center. The second victim has also been identified but his name was not released. He is described as a 30-year-old man from San Diego.Police said witnesses reported seeing a man, possibly Hispanic, wearing a mask and shorts, running from the scene. He was seen getting into a small, white four-door vehicle that was last seen driving southbound on Linda Vista Road.Officers said the two victims appeared to have been near the handball courts at the recreation center when they were injured. According to Sharp Grossmont Hospital, the flowers were cut fresh from the hospital’s gardens and delivered to the 24 women who became mothers Sunday. The program, called “This Bud’s for You” is now in its 11th year. According to the hospital, the program was initiated by landscapers to cheer patients up. Players throw an axe at a wooden target and score points based on where the axe lands. There are three rounds, with five throws per player.Steve and Annie Wyland created the facility after throwing axes on the East Coast. Steve lost his job, and the couple decided to move to San Diego.Their new project offers experiences like birthday and bachelor/bachelorette parties, and corporate outings. Five of the facility’s 11 lanes are dedicated to walk-ins. There’s also league play on Wednesday nights.If you’ve never thrown an axe, don’t worry, BattleAxe SD says.
