Race relations is one issue impacting voters as they head to the polls for the midterms next week.A recent poll from the Associated Press found 77 percent of Democrats and about 50 percent of Republicans say they're dissatisfied with race relations.During a speech this week, President Donald Trump stirred up another controversy.“They have a word. I am, I'm a nationalist, OK?”The president says he used the word because he's proud of our country, but some say the word is a signal to white nationalists and points back to the president's comments after the Nazi rally in Charlottesville last year.“He's allowing white nationalist to feel comforted in those words,” says Andre Perry, with the Brookings Institution. “It's clear he's using a divisive rhetoric to rally his base, and that rhetoric is racist.”But for the past year, Candace Owens with the conservative, non-profit organization Turning Point USA, has defended Trump.“No matter what he says, they spin it,” Owens says. “No matter how he says it, they spin it. You saw that with [the] Charlottesville thing. (KGTV) -- Authorities are searching for a person suspected in a deadly shooting in Ramona Thursday morning.The shooting was reported just before 6 a.m. in the 600 block of Pine Street, San Diego County sheriff's officials said. The reporting party told deputies they found a man on the ground in front of a neighboring home.The man was taken to a nearby hospital but did not survive. The man was not identified.Details on what led to the shooting remain unclear, but a sheriff’s official told ABC 10News the incident is being investigated as a homicide.With deputies searching on the ground, a law enforcement helicopter hovered over the area and announced a search for a male wearing a black hoodie. President Donald Trump, after surveying the destruction wrought by wildfires in California, said Saturday that the devastation has not altered his opinion on climate change."No, no, I have a strong opinion. I want a great climate," Trump said when asked whether what he witnessed had changed his view."We're going to have that, and we are going to have forests that are very safe because we can't go through this," Trump continued during a briefing at a command center in Chico, California. "Every year we go through this. We're going to have safe forests, and that's happening as we speak."But later, on Air Force One alongside Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown and Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, who is also the state's governor-elect, Trump said that while he disagrees with the state leaders on the issue, their views are "maybe not as different as people think.""Is it happening? Things are changing," Trump said. "And I think, most importantly, we're doing things about. We're going to make it better. We're going to make it a lot better. (AP) — Eight acrobats injured when the rigging suspending them by the hair plummeted to the floor during a circus performance in Rhode Island in 2014 have reached a .5 million settlement with ownership and management of the arena where the circus was held.Zachary Mandell, an attorney for the women, confirmed the settlement, first reported by The Providence Journal.A metal clip that held the acrobats 20 feet above the floor of the Dunkin' Donuts Center snapped.The women sued the Rhode Island Convention Center Authority, which owns the arena, and SMG, which manages it.According to the Associated Press, SMG arranged with Feld Entertainment to bring the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus to Providence.The Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) found that the clip was overloaded after the accident, so they cited Feld and imposed a fine, the AP reported.An attorney for both entities said he could neither confirm nor deny a settlement.Mandell added that insurers would pay the settlement. 1070

Republican Congressman Duncan Hunter won re-election in the 50th Congressional District, despite facing federal charges of campaign fraud. With 100 percent of the precincts reporting, Hunter had just over 54 percent of the vote against Democrat Ammar Campa-Najjar."He's strong on the 2nd Amendment, he's strong on our defense, he's very pro-military," said Dan Summers, a Ramona resident who voted for Hunter and celebrated at his campaign event Tuesday night. Hunter did not make himself available to the media, and in a statement said he looked forward to representing the 50th Congressional District on issues that matter to them."For 10 years, I have consistently and unapologetically focused on rebuilding the military, protecting the border, which includes a border wall, cutting taxes, supporting our veterans, creating small business jobs and economic development, upholding the 2nd Amendment and protecting the sanctity of life," Hunter said in the statement. Hunter's statement did not address the criminal charges, which he and his wife Margaret pleaded not guilty to in Federal Court earlier this year.
